Statement by Senator Hillary Clinton Commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s Birthday
Press release.

Today marks what would have been the 79th birthday celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. As we commemorate his life and the legacy that continues to resound throughout our country, let us remember his wisdom and extraordinary mission to eliminate barriers and injustices for all Americans. His vision propelled the civil rights movement into an undeniable force that shaped our country. We honor Dr. King for his leadership, vision, and strength that helped to reshape America's morale conscience, making our country how we ought to be - stronger, better and united.

It was Dr. King who reminds us that we have the duty - and the power - to make a difference not only in our lives, but in the lives of others.

1. It's incredible to remember that he died so young
I was 14 and it was such a blow to all of us...(followed in the summer by Bobby Kennedy's murder. What an aweful year that was).
I wonder what would have happened if he had lived to the ripe age of 79.

2. He was a great man and left a legacy that IMHO will live forever.
One of the low points in American History.

13. So, nothing would have changed if the Civil Rights Act hadn't
passed into law? It created a political tsunami, forever altering this nation, and the political parties we have today. Do you think Barry Goldwater would have worked as hard to pass it as LBJ did? It cost LBJ a LOT to get it passed, and cost the Democratic party a lot, as well.
America wouldn't be where it is today regarding Civil Rights if it hadn't become law.
To act like all LBJ did was write his signature on that legislation is ridiculous!

30. I don't think this poster knows how a 60 yr. old thinks.
All he's got are stupid one-liners. I asked what I thought were legitimate questions, but all I got were one line blechs.

just a week after she watered down his achievements to score political points on Fox News.

9. I kept waiting for: "Because of Dr. King, we now have a black man running for president.....
...It is very remarkable that only 40 years after his death, there is a black man running for president who could become the first black president and oh, by the way, he's black.

Respectfully,
Hillary Clinton (who wouldn't become the first black president)

12. I would like to say a big "F*** YOU" to the thread-pissers here
but I won't, cuz then my post might get deleted.

So instead I'll say this is a beautiful statement from Clinton that goes along with her record, and thank you, William, for posting it.

Now back to your usual petty squabbling.

31. They are very few today which is a good thing.
I honestly believe that the majority of people know the truth and are respecting the wishes of the candidates concerned, with the exception of a few and it their loss.
