Clinton: Obama camp is 'distorting' her remarks
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton accused Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign Sunday of distorting remarks that she and her husband have made recently which touched off concerns among some African-American voters.

snip

In the interview with Fox News last week, Clinton said, "Dr. King's dream began to be realized when President Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964. It took a president to get it done." She has argued repeatedly that her experience shows she can get more done as president than Obama.

Some African-American leaders criticized the remarks as denigrating the civil rights movement and King. Both Clintons have long been popular among African-American leaders, and have extolled the civil rights movement.

On NBC's "Meet the Press" Sunday, Sen. Clinton referred to King as "one of the people I admire most in the world " and accused the Obama camp of "putting out talking points" about the recent remarks.

Obama rejected Clinton's complaints as "ludicrous." He also accused her of "rewriting" history in her complaints about his voting record on Iraq.

Sen. John Edwards, also in the running for the Democratic nomination, stepped in with his own criticism of Clinton. Speaking at a church in South Carolina, he accused Clinton of suggesting "that real change ... came not through the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, but through a Washington politician."

Clinton on Sunday went on to say that while Obama repeatedly refers to King in his speeches, she was noting that King "didn't just give speeches," but also marched, organized, faced violence and was jailed.

"He understood that he had to move the political process and bring in those who were in political power. And he campaigned for political leaders including Lyndon Johnson because he wanted somebody in the White House who would act on what he had devoted his life to achieving."

She added, "Clearly we know from media reports that the Obama campaign is deliberately distorting this."

18. Obama/Edwards are sliming Clinton
relentlessly in Daily Kos. They are also troll rating Clinton supporters off of Daily Kos so that they can't respond.
It is gross that Edwards is standing at pulpits of black churches charging that Clinton is racist.

14. Not leaked by the Obama camp. HuffPo claims it was leaked by an activist,
Edited on Sun Jan-13-08 06:29 PM by Occam Bandage
who received it from the Obama campaign. No indication that the Obama camp intended for it to be made public, especially since it damages, rather than bolsters, his campaign's narrative on racial issues.

"Hey, guys, this is what she's saying about us," said internally, is not "playing the race card."

17. Obama/Edwards Thugs from Daily Kos are here
Their trademark is the cascading posts immediately following a headline.
So that "rah rah" asslicking is the first that the eye sees. If you do a
cascade, no one opposing their lame posts are seen by the casual viewer,
so it looks like a big groundswell.

The worst about these jokers is they Troll rate Clinton people off of Daily Kos.
Their "mikes are cut off." They are silenced. So the media thinks all of
Daily Kos is in unison like a pack of lemming dorks.

It has long been suspected that the "mob" is one or two guys operating under multiple ids. So it looks like a dozen people agreeing with
each other, when it's only the one neurotic little weenie with no life.

My own suspician is something like this was going on when New Hampshire
polls were being taken, which accounts for the skewed results.

4. Obama isn't "just giving speeches" - he is running for President. That qualifies as "political"
So much for Hillary's defense that:

"she was noting that King "didn't just give speeches," but also marched, organized, faced violence and was jailed.

"He understood that he had to move the political process and bring in those who were in political power. And he campaigned for political leaders including Lyndon Johnson because he wanted somebody in the White House who would act on what he had devoted his life to achieving."

9. LBJ and MLK were the right combination as well as some on the GOP side
What is the likelihood of a Civil Rights Act passing if Jesse Jackson and GWB were in those spots? GWB probably would had called out the National Guard to put the protesters down. Wait! We don't have any National Guard in the states.

11. while I appreciate your point it has nothing to do with what I posted. HRC says Obama is all talk
and is not taking concrete steps to make changes.

I believe that her case is made moot by the concrete step of running for President, if it took President LBJ to force MLKs civil rights vision into law then what might President Obama be able to bring about with HIS vision?

5. well, it was a dumb thing to say
No matter the point she was trying to make, and I do understand it, you don't say it. There's nothing to be gained, politically, from making a statement like that.

6. The more she digs, the more endorsements Obama gets.
She should just stop this now. She is polarizing her colleagues in Washington (and beyond) against her.
