i like this debate format even though larry king is being an ass, especially to kucinich. i like how they are more free to just speak up and lots of issues being discussed.

4. Example - when Kucinich talks about
universal health care, Larry interrupts "You mean socialism"

getting a mix of boos and applause from the audience.

7. Yeah but Kucinich's response was right on the mark
What we have now is predatory capitalism...good answer.

9. "You mean socialism".
Larry would be right on that, wouldn't he?
A lot of Kucinich's ideas are fairly socialist. Not that there's anything wrong with it. But you can't get mad at King for pointing out the obvious.

10. no, they're not socialist

I don't think any of DK's ideas are socialist...

For example, could corporate America afford to do business without the US military? And, is anybody complaining that the cost of the military is socialized?

Single-payer healthcare would work no differently than the way the military is funded now: a single body would collect funds and then invest them in private industry.

After hearing Edwards' wife the other day, I concluded that her husband supported "socialism for the rich." i.e. his wife told the crowd that he wants the government to help pay for malpractice insurance.

DK is right, IMO, that if the government subsidizes healthcare, then all Americans should have a seat at the table!

People like Larry want to eat their cake and have it too.

13. Well, what we have now in the US is corporate socialism
For example -- who pays for the airports necessary for airlines to make their profits? We do. We also pay for their bailouts when they f*** up their own companies.

Who paid for the research that produced the internet, which is now exploited for private profit by the high tech industry? We did.

Who pays for the research used to develop new drugs, research that is exploited for outrageous profit by Big Pharma? We do.

Who pays for the massive military necessary to secure markets and resources for corporate America all over the globe? We do.

Our system is based on the idea of public risk/investment, private proft -- when you get to the level of large corporations. In a truly free market, large corporations would not be able to exist -- they would instead crumble beneath their own weight. The backbone of a true free economy is the small-to-medium sized business, not the transnational corporation.

All Dennis wants to do is to shift the focus from corporations on to the people. What's sad is just how much resistance there is to helping the many rather than the few who don't need it.

Corporate Socialism is the worst of both worlds.

2. This is a very good debate!
Wish they had used this sit-down around the table forum before. It could have worked, even with ten candidates. Dennis is looking good, even is some of his questions have been asinine.

12. I didn't like it, it was extremely unfair to DK and AS.
The questioners and King were rude and talked over all of them.

19. Understanding your point, but
I believe people are actually smart enough to have gotten that.

AS was exceptional and DK was exceptional when he spoke.

Kerry's grimaces and strange shocked looks reminded me of; never mind...
