Why does the Republican establishment want Romney?
Every place I turn they are talking up Mittens and trying to tear down Huckinstein and and McCain.

Fox is pushing Romney
Rush Limbaugh
Robert Novak
Frank Luntz
Sean Hannity etc.

Romney is such a flip flopping piece of crap you would think they would be cringing at the thought of him as their candidate. Are they just stupid or do they have something up their sleeve?

14. Yep, Mittens is the corporate candidate. Huckabee's scared the Rethugs
badly by criticizing the rich folks.

2. He's really, really rich, and he represents Big Money.
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 08:33 PM by ocelot
He's the ultimate corporatist, more than any other Rep candidate.

Huckabee is a weird sort of fundie populist who is definitely not part of the "establishment." McCain is more of an establishment type but the money guys don't like him because of his work on campaign finance reform.

They want someone who will promote the same kind of pro-corporate crap the Bush administration has been doing.

3. Because Mormons believe Mormon males become a god on their own planet of women.
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 08:30 PM by Sarah Ibarruri
Maybe they want the same thing? I'm not kidding about a god on a planet of women. And the women all become the god's wives.

10. Now thats how we could win the war on Terror!
Convert everyone to the Mormon religion and offer them a whole planet full of virgins that they can be Gods to! Thats a hell of a lot better deal than the Muslims get. We might even get some converts from the Muslims with that kind of offer!

29. No doubt! When I was living in Spain.....
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 08:53 PM by Sarah Ibarruri
.... Everywhere I looked there were American Mormon missionary teens with their black tags, trying to convert Spanish people. It was quite odd. About 6 of them once prayed on the Metro. The Spaniards just stared in unpleasant suspicion. Mormons have a very efficient proselytizing system. They send their teenagers all over the planet to gain converts.

30. Mitt might has well have come out and said so in the debate on ABC
When he was talking about winning the "war on Islamofascist terra" through means other than war, you know he was really thinking about deploying missionaries in white shirts on mountain bikes all over the Muslim world.

Having 72 virgins is a good selling point for a religion. 72 virgin wives AND being the "Allah" of your own planet is an even better one.

I was like, "Yeah? Well, I'm no lesbian!" He turned bright red and shut up.

7. I was driving back from Iowa Friday, listening to Limbaugh.
He was APOPLECTIC over Huckabee's win. I feared he might burst a vessel (feared..hoped...same diff). He was ranting about how populism is NOT a part of the conservative movement, and warning people that it 's dangerous. I was laughing out loud!

I'm not sure why the love for Romney, but I do think that what happened in Iowa was a rebellion. The RR Repugs are tired of promises on social issues they don't think are taken seriously enough. And of this "where else are you gonna go?" attitude from the Rovian wing of the party. I think the Repug leadership is very nervous right about now.

22. Repugs in Iowa told me as much.
In the two counties in my old area, Repug caucuses weren't held in local precincts. Repugs had to drive to the county courthouse--for the first time ever--to caucus. My R friends--I have a few--were furious about this. They believed it was because the leadership thought the smaller towns would support Huckabee. What was rather ironic is that my friends would never have supported Huckabee, but they were pissed at the party bigwigs, too.

And even wtih all of this, the Huckabites turned out. Don't let the fact that they think the earth is 5,000 years old fool you. These people aren't as dumb as they look.

24. I got the same feeling listening to the local conservative radio station here
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 08:49 PM by Quixote1818
Many callers were very upset with FOX and Rush for attacking Huckabee. Several straight out said that FOX's owner had given money to Hillary and that FOX was not conservative but just in it for the money. I agree with you 100% because I heard the same stuff. Bush has splintered the Republican party and the Religious Right into several groups.

17. Two things: No one has ever been more corporate than Mittens.
The other is they think he can win because he looks like a president. In truth he is far and away their weakest nominee.

18. My theory is that they're banking on him as a loser.
Conceding this election because they know they don't have much of a chance. Romney's rich, so they won't have to pour cash in to his campaign. They figure they'll be able to run an even loonier than bush neocon in 2012 and get away with it. The public has a short memory.

I hope he gets kicked hard to the gutter tomorrow.

The damn Willard signs are ALL OVER the place here in NH. Businesses love him and have massive signs up in front of their businesses. I wonder if care that I'll never do business with a place that supports mittens?
