HRC: "New Hampshire has a lot of voters who don't think they need a president right now"
Because this article deserves to live:

Clinton Seeks to Box Obama into Cultural Corner
By Alec MacGillis

NASHUA, N.H. -- As Hillary Clinton looks to rebound in New Hampshire, it appears one part of her strategy will be to cast Barack Obama as the favorite of yuppie elites who aren't looking for experienced leadership so much as they are wanting to ride a trend or indulge a sentiment.

Speaking to several hundred supporters in an airport hangar in Nashua, N.H. today, Clinton was as explicit on this score as she's ever been, suggesting that those supporting Obama were not entirely serious about their deliberations.

"I'm well aware that New Hampshire, and America, has a lot of voters who don't think they need a president right now, they're doing fine, they're well educated," she said. "So for them this election isn't about 'me and my family' it's about, you know, 'how I feel' and 'what I hope for.' And that's great, but there are more people in New Hampshire who need a president who will be your champion."

It is true that polls, and exit polls Thursday night in Iowa, have shown Obama to do better among higher-earning and better-educated voters, while Clinton's strength is with the middle and working class. There is one downside for Clinton, though, in drawing attention to this difference: New Hampshire has in recent years undergone a substantial demographic turnover, with more than 200,000 new eligible voters in the state since 2000, nearly a quarter of the the total number -- and most of them, on average, higher-earning and better-educated than those who have died or left the state since 2000.

Whether or not they feel they need a president is unclear, but one thing is for sure: many of them will be voting next week, with New Hampshire Secretary of State Bill Gardner now predicting a record turnout of 500,000 on January 8.

3. It's a stupid thing to say... it shows her starting to unravel IMHO.
not to mention insulting voters by accusing them of being "trendy" etc.

35. saw live footage of her, she was nervous and did not connect
I remember seeing her at Coretta King's funeral, her behavior there was almost a cartoon like performance, this was similar,
she is not comfortable with crowds or those who have different opinions than hers.

19. Her pleas for electability are the worst I've ever heard on any level.
She's got two or three messages.

1. "You know how bad I am. You don't know how bad the other guy MIGHT be."
2. "I've got all this experience. Don't you get it?"

Good luck with that strategy! Insulting the intelligence of the Obama supporters is sure to win this for Hillary! :sarcasm: :eyes:

I wonder if this is how Hillary would handle foreign leaders who didn't agree with her? Insult their intelligence? :wtf:

21. as a female candidate for POTUS, isn't Hil vulnerable to the same sentiment. The fact that they
think Obama is a sentiment or yuppie elites are who support him means Bil/hill have their collective heads up their collective butts. I support Edwards and I don't think she should be going after the Obama supporters this way. She can't afford to and the same could be said about her way more than any other candidate. She painted herself as business as usual. Pathetic to do this when things aren't getting done!If things were getting done I would say its okay for her to have done this. Its not.

22. This article does make one think.
I don't dislike Obama, but I still believe that Hillary is far better prepared than Obama to be President "from day one." And I still believe that in the general election, Hillary would be a stronger candidate for us nation-wide than Obama.

Hillary is right, and unfortunately, the article is right about New Hampshire. Upper-middle-class Latte Liberals will dominate the New Hampshire primary this year. These prosperous Democrats (and the honorary Latte Liberals - the young people still in college) are on the verge of foisting Obama on the Democratic Party. We are moving into uncharted territory here. I doubt the wisdom of this leap into the unknown.

37. Obama won 38% of idealistic Democratic voters in Iowa and beat Alan Keyes
I predict Cult Obama will get a rude awakening by millions of suburban voters on super tuesday.

I was with a bunch of middle class suburban baby boom voters from "across the spectrum" this weekend and even may of the Republicans are looking forward to another Clinton era. Not one had anything but dread about Obama and they were asking questions about his credentials. Everyone laughed when they remembered Alan Keyes. They also were asking questions about Edwards and Huckabee. There were 3 women in the group and they all were supporting Hillary and think Obama doesn't deserve to win because of his lack of experience. They smell men holding women back. A former real estate executive said men just can't take a woman in power. An artist originally from the southside of Atlanta( a rare person actually born in Atlanta) said she thought that men would never let a woman win. She said she heard Obama bused in people from out of state to vote and that this wasn't really a true democratic election. She reminded us that France picked a slime like Sarkozy over a qualified woman and America was even worse. A gay Republican Columbian guy said he was glad Hillary lost and said she was cold bitch. A longtime Republican man from Long Island said he was looking forward to a return of the good years for the middle class that was the 90's. "Hey, what was so bad about peace and prosperity?" He said he didn't trust Edwards because he was a trial lawyer, thought Obama was a billionaires plot to keep Hillary from winning and would raise taxes the most. He said trusted the Clintons and thought Huckabee and Barack Obama were both strange names. Why did Obama have an Arabic name? Maybe former Arkansas governor Huckabee would be a lot like Clinton but not raise taxes. An independent progressive leaning man from Illinois joked that Oprah would be secretary of defense in an Obama administration. He's a cynic from a Chicago police family and thinks the rich will always be several steps ahead of us. He doesn't trust any Chicago politicians and thinks Obama is a puppet for somebody. He wonders what forces are at work to get the Democrats to switch from a known winner for a controversial unknown? A planned civil war or coup or just more corruption?

Everyone wanted to know what would happen with the economy. What would happen to their houses and retirements. Who would raise taxes. Who would make the stock market go up? Most wanted to give the Clinton's another shot at the economy since they were a known positive quantity. BTW, everyone saw Hill and Bill as the same thing. Everyone saw Obama as a possible threat to their futures or a least a wild card and his selection would make them reconsider voting Democratic. The actual Democrats were reconsidering Edwards if Hillary was thwarted. One of the women said he would appeal to the rednecks in the border states. Another woman said Edwards was the cutest candidate but what about his wife? After a hour of political talk the majority still leaned for Hillary but were considering Edwards. No one had anything good to say about Obama or any of the known Republicans. Huckabee was now on the screen and there was curiosity about him. Guiliani, McCain and the Mormon candidate seemed to everyone like crooks for the billionaires just like Bush/Cheney. Most are still Hillary intenders who would vote for Edwards over Obama if that's the only choice. Next week I'll bring in some conservative/LIEbertarian Republicans into our group. We will hear discussion between the Booortz-Limbaugh crowd vs the Hillaryrites.

36. She's correct. Obama is a vanity candidate.
Electing someone because of their preachery speechifying is a foolish vanity and shows a profound lack of understanding about politics.

It's one thing to want to kick out the old crew when that crew is dug-in wingers forcing their ugly ideology down the country's throats. It's an entirely different thing to kick out the experienced political Democrats that have proven their abilities to operate the machinery of Washington against Publicans.

The Clintons have more experience and ability to wrestle this country around to Democratic values than anybody.

Hillary has the right message because she's right on the reality. She just needs to fine-tune the message and keep it in front of America.
