A decisive victory like last night's, occurring in Iowa? Could be enough momentum for the nomination, and the general election will be a gimme.

57. If Iowa were a poll, which it isn't, this would be well outside the margin of error.
Yeah, I call it a decisive victory. Obama won, and we can't blame the voting machines or the Supreme Court.

If you simply mean that results in other states won't necessarily follow suit, I agree with you. Obama's victory was decisive--in Iowa, which doesn't decide the nomination. Clinton, for example, will win in some states, despite the pundits' labeling her third-place finish a "defeat."

18. hear that you Super Tuesday folks!
Obama apparently thinks that the delegate-rich States of NY, NJ, PA, CA and the like will be pushed aside in favor of two relatively small States.

I hope to God he didn't say this and, furthermore, doesn't actually believe this. If so, he's in for a much bumpier ride than I thought.

One thing I can say about Hillary is she knows how fluid this process is and wouldn't start counting those proverbial chickens this early in the process. That woman has her nose to the grindstone with her eye fixed firmly on her goal as we speak!

34. amazing how the msm is giving rudy a pass for registering in
iowa but not showing up and campaigning in florida and demeaning hrc for staying in iowa and trying to win.

Listening to the msm one would say the nomination is all but assured for obama. I personally beg to differ. He won 1 state and now he has to find a way to get a majority of the delegates in the other 49. I see this not happening. Other then illinois on the 5th of feb what other of the 19 states will obama win?

I will support HRC till the last dog dies and I still say that either by feb 19 at the earliest and march 4 the latest hrc will have a majority of the delegates to become the nominee.

54. currently
Obama trails by twenty points or more in NY, NJ, PA and CA and is still struggling to catch up to her in the other States as well. The ONLY State he's ahead in -- and by a large margin -- is Illinois, his home State.

What I find interesting is that people are focusing a lot on NH and SC, but forgetting that in the middle there on the 19th is NV, a State with the fastest growing city (Las Vegas) and where Hillary leads by twenty points. Obama just (just!) opened an office there -- or maybe it was a new office in addition to one he already has -- and has, I'm sure, operatives on the ground, but hasn't made a dent in her support.

Winning Iowa doesn't end the game. And I believe Hillary's experience will pay off in the end. IF Obama said what the OP is claiming he said, it shows a stunning amount of inexperience and hubris as well as a troubling lack of political caution.

One doesn't win a marathon by sprinting the first mile, you know? It's an ephemeral lead that quickly disappears like a mirage when the more experienced, better paced runner catches up with -- and overtakes -- you.

Obama: A NH win means he will win White House

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. -- Barack Obama told a New Hampshire audience here that if they make him the winner of the state's presidential primary on Tuesday he will win the White House.

"If you give me the same chance Iowa did last night, I truly believe I will be the next president of the United States," Obama said to an audience in Portsmouth.

Obama will also have campaign stops in Concord and Milford.

22. Here's a link to some context -
PORTSMOUTH, NH.-"If you give me the same chance Iowa gave me last night," White House hopeful Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) told a crowd here, his first stop after winning the Iowa caucus, "I truly believe I will be president of the United States."

Quick thoughts on this Portsmouth event, in a vast and chilly airplane hangar housing a variety of Pan Am planes (yes the legacy airline died years ago; the name was sold to a regional airline)

*Obama was reading from notes in a ringed notebook on the podium where he stood, reflecting the new elements inserted today in his stump speech.

*A key element is his new refrain, "In four days," a line designed to show the urgency of his mission, with four days until the Jan. 8 primary.

52. November 20th: If Obama Wins Iowa & New Hamshire, He Will Be the Nominee
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=389&topic_id=2321594

Obama is only stating the obvious. I wrote the same thing back in November:

------

"Here it is: I'm willing to put my forty years of activism and national organizing from licking envelopes for Bobby Kennedy and posting yards signs to being a voting delegate to two National Democratic Conventions from "the great state of California" all on the line and make this statement, and I don't make it lightly:

"If Senator Barack Obama from Illinois should come in first place in Iowa and then in New Hampshire, he will certainly be the nominee of our great party. And it's not an unlikely assumption anymore because something nearly cosmic is going on in those two states this time. At this moment. Obama is beginning to suck up the oxygen and just at the right time, too. There is magic in the air."
