My caucus story. Clinton supporters: DON'T FORGET TO TAKE THE SANDWICHES!
Edited on Fri Jan-04-08 08:10 AM by wndycty
My buddy and I ended up going to Des Moines Precinct 102, Jackson Elementary School, we were asked to drive a nice older lady to that caucus because her car broke down, driving her allowed us the sit in the caucus room as observers. When I say nice, I mean nice, she baked us chocolate chip cookies which were still hot when she got in the car.

For those not from Iowa, like me, a caucus is like NOTHING you have ever participated in or seen. The lobbying, the arm twisting, the horse trading, the headcounts were just amazing.

Our caucus room was OVERFLOWING and the larger groups were asked to move to other rooms as they determined viability. Both the Clinton and Obama groups pushed back, but the Clinton folks were particularly nasty and unlike the Obama folks, who ended up leaving with very little arm twisting. The Clinton folks brought trays of sandwiches and bags of chips they would use to sway undecided caucuses to sit with them. As the Clinton group finally agreed to leave and were filing out of the room a very obnoxious woman screams "DON'T FORGET TO TAKE THE SANDWICHES" and of course, they took the sanwiches. LOL

To show you how spiteful the Clinton folk were. Right before our final tally was made official the count was Obama 116, Edwards 115 and Clinton 76, upon learning this, 15 Clinton supporters peeled off and joined the Edwards group and only 5 Clinton supporters came to Obama, making the final total Edwards 130, Obama 121 and Clinton 56. The delegate breakdown from that precinct ended up being Edwards 4, Obama 3, Clinton 1.

1. Interesting anecdote...
I suspect that if we examined every candidates supporters, we would find obnoxious people in each group. Sometimes I wonder how I can support a candidate when I consider the others who will vote for him or her.

Politics makes strange bedfellows!

2. Yes, I've seen that supporters can sometimes be obnoxious. Doesn't mean the candidate is.

3. not a fan of the caucus system
it's too discriminatory in terms of who can participate...ie who has two hours to devote on a specific night...no absentee voting either. It also pits neighbors against each other and because anonymity is not an option, coercion can openly be used.
