Poll question: Should Rod Paige Resign?
Rod Paige called the National Education Association a terrorist organization...

As a terrorist organization members of the NEA can be subject to seizure of their assets, sneak and peak searches, and deportation...

Paige's remarks are incendiary and mean spirited...

Should Paige resign?

3. Please Don't...
The more idiots Bush has in his administration the easier it is to remind people of the dolt he really is. BTW...I voted no, because only heaven knows what simpleton moron that Bush would come up with next.

9. maybe Kathy Cox?
then we could get evolution banned from ALL school curriculums....

medical school would have classes on correct use of leeches, spells and potions, and casting out demons.

Law school would teach dunking stool methods and firelighting techniques (for the witch burnings)

Business school would stay the same.

6. I voted "yes", but..
you kind of have to love it. This can go on the list with "outsourcing is good for us" and "McManufacturing jobs". I'm sure glad that my elderly mother is retired from that terrorist organization. Do you think she can still be arrested under the Patriot Act? She's 83 and pretty frail, but she could have explosives in her orthopedic shoes.

8. He Can Say Whatever He Wants But The First Amendment Only
protects you from prosecution by the federal government for your speech...

For instance, if Paige told Bush to blow him that would be a fireable offense but he couldn't be prosecuted...

13. The First Amendment doesn't eliminate ALL consequences!
I love these cats who use the First Amendment in this way, as if firing somebody for saying something stupid and dangerous is a violation of the first amendment!

15. Other:
Yes, if he takes NCLB with him. Since I just don't see that happening, he can stay and become election fodder. Let's just fire his ass, along with GWB.

Hopefully, ALL candidates are listening and paying attention here. As they gleefully grab on to his remarks to campaign with, I hope they notice teacher reaction. It's not just to Paige. Why would Paige make such a remark to begin with? It wasn't a "poorly thought out joke." He's in our targets, and he knows it. He's having to defend the indefensible NCLB, and he's pissed.

If the democratic candidate wants the most bang for the buck out of this one, he will not only criticize Paige and GWB, he will make taking high-stakes testing and one-size-fits-all instructional philosophy out of federal education legislation. That's the way to get teachers fired up for a campaign.

Meanwhile, I'm a terrorist. I'm watching over my shoulder in my classroom, at the library, on my computer.

Anyone who opposes the emperor is a terrorist, and can be captured and brought to justice under provisions of the patriot act.

18. Well, I voted yes.
But, I was thinking no for a while.

It is desirable that an incendiary fraud like Paige be kept on for the illustrative example of the dolts * has surrounded himself with.

But, then I got to thinking that Paige will just be put out back with the rest of the morons, Mankiw, Cheney, et al. And everybody will forget about it.

But, what if he resigned and * had to nominate someone else to take his place? The religionistas would be demanding their pound of flesh. The conservatives would want one of their own. And on and on. And each competing faction in the repuke party would cause more division.

So, I voted yes.

20. resign? no. he should be fired immediately
the use of such inflammatory language against a political foe may be acceptable by a candidate during an election campaign, but Paige is not running for elected office.

he works for the citizens of this country and as such has an ethical obligation to treat law-abiding citizens and groups with respect and not call them criminals.

by his comments he is placing the NEA outside the boundaries of equal protection under the law and this is in fact the intent of the rhetoric; to dehumanize and thus dis-enfranchise the NEA in the mind of the public.

it is a despicable act of hate propaganda and he should be held accountable for his remarks.

He can say whatever he wants. He can also be fired for it.

Sadly, there are DUers who agree with him.
