When there is any mention of Edwards and the $400 haircut, this is my response:
In 2005, William W. McGuire, M.D., CEO of United Health Care, earned $124 million. His compensation in the five years 2001-2005 was $341 million.

If you want outrage, we can find many examples of outrage in this country that need to be addressed. I'm voting for a Dem who gets corporate obscenity.

1. Really? Here is my reply....
I have had to borrow my car payment and car insurance payment for the last 6 months because I havent been able to work because of my sons disability. Asking for help month after month is depressing and it hurts.

So John Edwards, when your haircuts are more than my car payment and car insurance combined, dont stand there and tell me that you are in touch with the forgotten people in this country, that you are going to fight for them while you are standing there flushing $100 bills down the toilet on your stupid hairdo.

5. Rich people are socked exorbitant fees for a lot of things
However, I'd rather bet on a rich person who is grateful and feels a need to pay back his good fortune than a poor guy who wants to forget where he came from and ally himself with the aristocracy.

Just sayin. Edwards is a possibility for me, although I feel Richardson is the most competent and has the flexibility to deal with the mess he's going to be confronted with. Both have been out of DC long enough to have gotten reality checks outside the beltway punditocracy and party leadership insiders, and that is their greatest asset.

14. Yep. Nixon had a very modest start and middle in life. He was bad news
And I have no problem with a well off gent paying good money to skilled professionals who took years to learn their craft. It's better than the cheap bastards who want to screw the working class to maintain their cushie lifestyles.

Money spent is money moving the economy. Money horded takes jobs and bread from those who need the most.

25. Pat Nixon also spoke of 'turning' Dick's collars when he was in Congress
Edited on Sun Dec-23-07 07:50 PM by havocmom
For those who don't know the phrase: remove the collar from the shirt, turn it other side up so the worn side is not visible, then restitch. People used to do that to keep shirts looking newer longer.

Modest/poor does not guarantee integrity. Wealth does not preclude it.

26. Good to get the whole
picture especially when the m$$$$m is involved. The actual details of the haircut are quite different than they would have the public believe.

Elizabeth Edwards...
was at a private luncheon in Lexington a few months ago and when asked about the haircut, said that a staffer was asked to find someone to cut John's hair because he had a TV interview the next morning. The staffer found someone who would come but they were charged for not only the haircut and the trip but also the time that John kept him waiting. She also said that the hair cut was erroneously charged to the campaign and that that was rectified."

Beverly Hills, that's not his problem. I guess you hate FDR too. Difference is Edwards had to work for his bucks.

10. John Edwards isn't your enemy, nor is he the one who caused this horrible
downturn in the economy that leaves many of us struggling, just like you, to meet the cost just of basic living.

John Edwards' father had to borrow $50.00 to get John and his mother out of the hospital after his birth. He didn't have the money and he had no collateral. This is a man who has been poor, who pulled himself out of poverty, got an education and through tenacity and grit went on to be one of the most successful trial attorneys in the nation. (all of our top nominees are lawyers, BTW) He fought corporations, he fought them tooth and nail and he was well-compensated for it. It is the money he earned that gives him the freedom to speak against the very system that keeps the rest of us down. I for one am glad this man wants to fight for me, and for you. I don't doubt for a minute that he will, and that he will be sucessful. I wish the best for you at this Holiday Season and pray that things get better, for all of us and for our country.

spends on that hair of hers? $thousands.
What of the barber who left other clients to attend to Edwards' hair .. he must be paid for his talent, time and travel.

2. Good response...
I didn't realize until reading a recent post that the famous $400 haircut was to compensate someone for coming out to do it in the middle of the night. Still a little high, but not outrageous.

12. First he denied it, then claimed there was just one, then claimed he didn't know who cut his hair...
Edwards showed a lack of honesty about it. That was the problem, not how much all those stylings cost. Tip O'Neil had good advice for politicians: "Stick with the truth, it's the easiest story to remember." Johnny Edwards obviously had never heard of Tip O'Neil.

Appearances get you votes. Anybody who doesn't realize that needs to wake up.
