Giuliani plummets in latest NBC/WSJ poll
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22327166/

WASHINGTON - After a month’s worth of mostly negative media reports, his campaign’s decision to decrease his activity in the early nominating states and the rise of GOP rival Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani’s national standing has plummeted in the most recent NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, providing more evidence that the contest for the Republican Party’s presidential nomination is wide open.

According to the poll, Giuliani — who has been the clear leader in all previous NBC/Journal surveys this year — is now tied nationally with Mitt Romney at 20 percent among Republican primary voters. They are followed by Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, at 17 percent; Arizona Sen. John McCain at 14 percent; and former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson at 11 percent.

For Giuliani, it's a decline of 13 points since last month, when the former New York City mayor led the GOP field at 33 percent — followed by McCain at 16 percent, Thompson at 15 percent, Romney at 11 percent and Huckabee at 8 percent.

1. Once at top ranking, he just keeps on tanking.

Here's hoping the polling keeps on tanking for "America's Mayor."

There must not have been anything in the Giuliani team's arsenal to defend against a candidate like Huckabee. For months, Huckabee struggled for traction and funds. Now he has plenty of both and has tied or passed Rudy for the national lead.

Thompson's still in it, sort of in the way they propped up that dead guy in that movie. Tancredo's evidently out, which should be a signal to Lou Dobbs that his main theme for the last three years is very quickly reaching a dead end. McCain's polling is actually rising, which is frightening on one hand because he's unstable and virulently pro-war but understandable on the other, since there's little competition.

The stage is set for a dramatic re-entry by George Pataki!

8. Me too
I want him to have his ass kicked everyday until election day. This is why he went to the hospital. I mean really, who goes to the hospital for flu like symtoms? He should take an aspirin and suck it up like the rest of us do.

4. Of course now we have to look at that annoying, phony Huckabee.
I can't decide who repels me the most - Ghouliani or the Huckster.

5. Quit your goddam celebrating...it makes McCain more a possibility...
...I think McCain is the ONLY Repug who has a snowballs chance in beating a Dem. His candidacy would keep the moderate Indies in the Repug column, especially if either Hillary or Obama were the DEM nominee. In fact in those instance he would likely draw the 'Dixiecrat' vote as well. Edwards, and certainly Biden would not be so vulnerable, but the first is a longshot and the second is sadly, not a possibility at this point.

Keep your fingers crossed for Giulianni-Romney-Huckabee! Any of those three can be beaten in the general.
