To what party does a liberal belong?
It sure is not the Democratic Party after today's exclusion of Dennis Kucinich would attest.

2. The party didn't exclude him.
The Des Moines Register did.

Correct?

8. Do they own the Des Moines Register?
I wasn't aware that they were in a position to make executive decisions for the newspaper.

The rest of the candidates could have boycotted, I suppose. No chance in hell of that happening with this being one of the last chances they'll have to sway voters.

9. The Democratic Party has no control over the debates?
How did the Democratic Party allow that?

10. Your frustration is misplaced.
Unlike the Republicans, we don't own most of the media. The organization sponsoring the event generally determines the requirements.

I believe that Mr. Kucinich was aware of the requirements to be included in the debate. For whatever reason, he either chose not to meet them or was unable to.

Those requirements were not set by the Democratic Party.

11. The corporate media has complete control over the Debates?
The Democratic Party should not allow this.

13. Ok, now you're just being intentionally obtuse.
Or, perhaps, you're being sarcastic.

Either way, have a nice evening.

12. Kucinich was excluded because
he does not have a campaign office in the entire state of Iowa.

I love Kooch, but this is why he won't get my vote: because he's not really trying to win.

Booman speaks for me in this regard:

Now, before you go getting all indignant, keep in mind that this is Kucinich's own fault. Iowa is a state where he might expect to do well. It's certainly more favorable to him than New Hampshire, South Carolina, or Florida. If he can't even open an office in Iowa then his campaign is not serious. He basically is pretending to run for president for the specific purpose of having a voice in the debates.

There has to be some logical criteria for excluding some people from debates, and evidence of office space is better than position in the polls.

This is emblematic of my problem with Kucinich in general. He is saying many things I agree with, including on health care and impeachment. But I would much rather some other candidate would make those arguments...maybe a candidate with a headquarters in Iowa. And, I don't think this is a new or unannounced policy by the Des Moines Register. So Kucinich knew, or should have known, that the price of being in this debate was the price of office space in the state of Iowa.

There's more, and it's worth reading and considering.

Now, If Dennis would run as a Green ...:bounce: :toast:

14. Kucinich has opened several campaign offices
He has opened campaign offices in New Hampshire, Nevada and Ohio. There are probably more than this but I do not have a list.

The Ohio office is well staffed and serious. I know this because I have been there.

So I doubt if your article is all that worth reading.

16. It only refers to Iowa
where he has no campaign offices, and where he was excluded from today's debate.

18. well, that's incorrect
he has campaign offices, he just doesn't have "storefront" campaign offices.

or maybe he's just the new Larouche. :eyes:

17. actually, the better argument here
is to point out that Alan Keyes was in yesterday's debate meeting less of the requirements that DK met.
