At 2pm EST the George Mitchell steroids report will be released. (And will overwhelm all coverage of the Dem debate)

Roger Clemens will be named in the report. Roger Clemens is the closest player to Barry Bonds in terms of fame, records and dominance. Roger Clemens is clearly the greatest pitcher of the Bonds era, just as Bonds is the greatest hitter of the Clemens era.

There will not be a concerted national outcry that Clemens be arrested, that his records be stricken, that he not be allowed into the Hall of Fame. Such things will be mentioned in passing for a day or two, in a pretense of even-handedness, but there will be no national passion to take Clemens down. Why? Because Clemens is a burly white guy from Texas, not a surly black guy from San Francisco.

When the Bush administration wanted a steroids scape-goat they picked Bonds while all but apologizing for the steroid use of Bush buddy Raphael Palmeiro.

Bonds probably did lie to the Grand Jury... a Grand Jury primarily empaneled for the purpose of getting Bonds to lie to it. The White House wanted a steroids scalp, and they seem to have wanted Bonds.

Behold the sinister beauty of selective investigation... just because someone happens to be guilty doesn't mean he isn't a political prisoner.

Aren't there a few dozen names in the report? If so, are they all minorities? If not, it does not appear to be race-related, only steroid abuse-related.
