Retired Lt. Col. Officially Enters Race To Challenge McConnell
By Greg Sargent - December 13, 2007, 10:34AM

GOP Senate leader Mitch McConnell, whose support for the Iraq War has made him vulnerable to a challenge in 2008, officially has a challenger: Andrew Horne, a retired Marines lieutenant colonel who served in Iraq and who's also a senior adviser to the antiwar group VoteVets. Here's his announcement video:

Presumably Horne will be making an issue of McConnell's recent comments belittling the deaths of professional soldiers.

His official Web site, complete with bio and other stuff, is here:

3. Is McConnell another draft-dodging republicon chickenhawk?
Edited on Thu Dec-13-07 11:51 AM by SpiralHawk
There are sooooo many republicon chickenhawks...who have lied us into this oil-profits crusade in Iraq.

Soooo many republicon chickenhawks who are willing to send our sons and daughters in uniform off to die in a far-away foreign land in the cause of republicon Nation Building (corporate imperialism).

Shame on them all. I recognize it as cowardly and anti-American.

8. Andrew Horne is a major candidate; he has the aura and the reality of
a sincere and intelligent candidate. He has certainly got the skills to be a fine senator and Mitch is vulnerable at last. It is a courageous and patriotic candidacy; I hope he wins the primary and the general. Finally a voice of reason and character for Kentucky.

9. Isn't there a cloud hanging over McConnell's discharge from the Armed Forces?
Seems there was something fishy about how he left the service.

12. Good memory! From wiki:
I'd love to get to the bottom of this; sounds so much like the dim one to me!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitch_McConnell

McConnell served briefly in the United States Army Reserve during the Vietnam War-era but was discharged for unknown reasons.

The exact circumstances surrounding the discharge remain unknown because McConnell has always refused to discuss them; however, in August 1967, a letter was sent to the commanding general at Fort Knox (where McConnell was in boot camp) by former Senator John Sherman Cooper, for whom McConnell had previously worked as an intern. The letter stated that O'Connell was "anxious to clear post in order to enroll NYU. Please advise when final action can be expected." However, no record exists of McConnell ever enrolling - or even applying for admission - into New York University.

14. Mcconnell
I dount know If he can actully be beaten.Don't get me wrong I would love to see him go down In
defeat.Chances are better to knock off Smith In Oregon,Coleman in Minnesota,Sunura In New Hampshere, and Collins In Maine than knock him out of the senate. But,It would be great If It could be
done.
