It used to be that the worst thing you could do with the media if
you were a politician was to be caught in telling them a lie. Not telling a lie, because reporters know that pols have to bend the truth. It is in their dna.But for someone to tell a lie directly to a newsman ( as I said this is how it used to be )and then for the truth to come out otherwise was an affront to the reporter's professionalism. The reporter was embarrassed for being duped and having the colleagues know about it.
In this day of access journalism it does not seem to matter to a Tim Russert that Mike Huckabee looked him in the eye and lied about the Dumond case. And on a grander scale it does not matter a whit to newspeople that the man who lied us into an immoral war is caught lieing to the faces of the DC press corps about when he was briefed on the shutdown of the Iranian nuke weaponization program. The supposed liberal Washington Post bends over backward to cast his untruths as imprecision.
There are many fascistic trends threatening our country. They include the corruption of our political process by monied interests, the fear generated by the over hyped scourge of terrorism and the rise of virulently anti-democratic forces within the Republican Party. But the development that may pose the most danger to the republic is that our journalism is failing us miserably.And this at a time when lies unchallenged circle the globe in nano seconds. To our peril, the lies are not refuted but instead are recounted in front page stories on the Washington Post or spread by credulous talking heads.

1. Dan Abrams did a good job tonight on covering Huckabee's big LIE..

He had three guests on who were all involved with the case at the time that Huckabee pardoned Dumond.

Abrams said that it's enough that he's not being upfront about what happened, but that Huckabee is blaming everything on.....

((((( drumroll )))))

--------------------------------->> BILL CLINTON !!!

The Abrams Report put together a segment showing shots of Huckabee continually answering questions on the trail or on various interviews, and they snipped the part where he used the name "Bill Clinton"

They showed Huckabee saying "Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton....."

I'm not overly fond of Abrams, but on tonight's story, he did a great job!

As far as WAPO goes.. Tweety said a couple weeks ago that the "once liberal Washington Post is liberal no more". He said that with the new owner, stories that should be on the front page "above the fold" are being buried and hidden on page 16...

3. I've never been a big Abrams fan but he has been improving.
I saw the Huckabee piece and thought it very good.
