I hate to say I told you so.... Councilman Joe Cimperman to run for Kucinich's seat
Cleveland City Councilman Joe Cimperman will announce Tuesday that he is running for his fellow Democrat's 10th Congressional seat, which includes the West Side of Cleveland and the city's western suburbs.

Kucinich refuses to say if he plans to seek a seventh term next year; the filing deadline is a month away.

If Kucinich does run for re-election, Cimperman, who represents downtown Cleveland, will be Kucinich's first serious challenger in either a primary or general election since he was elected to Congress in 1996.

http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2007/12/councilman_joe_cimperman_to_ru.html

This is from a headline story in the Metro section of today's Plain Dealer...

In a post from 11/23/2007, I stated that North Olmsted Mayor would be the first in followed by Cimmpermann....

I was wrong on that part but right that DK is going to get someserious candidates this time around...

1. Does anyone think this because of the Ron Paul vice president thing?
That seemed to get a lot of people angry.

2. I doubt it, and I wouldn't be surprised if Dennis decides not to
run. It seems more likely that people see an opening created by Kucinich's focus on national politics.

15. He is being challenged because there are a lot of political figures
back here in his district who see his efforts to run for president as detracting from his duties as a congressperson...

Whether that is the truth or not, the perception is out there...

A poll was conducted back in early November to gague who could be a threat to DK...

Way before the Paul thing...

5. This challenger brought to you by the DLC and the owners of the Corporate Party
Funny how his first serious challenger comes at the exact same moment he is being seen as a serious threat to the Powers That Be.

6. Oh come on
Kucinich 1-2% support is no threat to anyone. He has a good voting record but lets be honest, Dems get primary challenges all the time.

7. no one sees Kucinich as being a serious threat to the powers that
be and there's no evidence that the DLC could give a damn about him, just as there's no evidence to suggest that Cimperman's entrance into the race has anything to do with the DLC.

24. Ok, ok, I'm streching things for effect. Sheesh!
:hi:

But you have to admit, Kucinich's words and actions are making the rest of the Dems in Congress look pretty bad by comparison. He is the only one who unambiguously opposes the occupation of Iraq, he is one of very few (and the only Presidential candidate) who openly supports impeachment. I believe the one and only reason he is not polling stronger is that the five corporations that own 90% of this country's media outlets have branded him "unelectable."

for calling his challenger a DLC'er?

11. Cimmpermann is not DLC...
All the major corportations in Cleveland are, for the most part, located in his downtown dictrict...

He has cobble together faith-based organizations with corporate money to help reviltize the downtown area...

He's a little heavy handed at times...

But he was raised a liberal Catholic, yes there are such things, and has been a very effective voice on council...

maybe the guy just wants his seat, and while Dennis is busy off doing other things, he figured it would be a good time to challenge him?

18. Rosemay has the backing of Paul Hacket, but she has been very quiet so far.
Her son, Augie Schroeder, was killed in Iraq in Aug., 05.

Her background is financial, and other than lobbying for an end to Iraq, her experience is limited.

Within the bowels of our party structure, here in Cuyahoaga County, Cleveland Ohio, Kuncich has burned lots of bridges and for no good reason other than it is his style.

29. Hi, Ninga.
I don't know how this will turn out, but somehow I agree with you that Hackett is not going to make much of an impact in that district.

But I do feel Kucinich will be tough to turn out. He's a fighter from way back when.

16. Whoa, this is big news
I haven't read my paper yet. I didn't know he was considering running. This is very serious competition for Dennis. He's been getting criticism since the last time he ran. Some felt he was neglecting his constituents.

I think Cimperman has a good shot at beating Dennis.

23. It seems like Dennis will be in trouble n/t
I know there was a lot of criticsm when he ran the last time about him not dropping out sooner. He stayed in until the convention when it was evident that he wasn't getting the nomination. I think that may have helped to change some constituents mind about his priorities.

Dennis knows that he doesn't have the city leadership behind him, it's been his relationship with his constituents that have kept him in office all these years.

I hope he can hold onto his seat. Someone needs to do a movie based on his life, he's a fascinating person.

27. Dennis is a master at self promotion, and I resent very much, his strong allegiance with
Steve LaTourette.

It plain stinks.....and LaTourette was the vote that put CAFTA in the win column......after telling a room full of his constituents he would never vote for it.

When Dennis was confronted by this fact, he never commented.

I do not think it would hurt his district one bit, to have another Dem serve.

32. I used to live there, and have followed Kooch for decades.
He has NEVER been popular with the powerful; either in corporate America, the political elite, or the Mafia. He just keeps on getting elected by the voters in his district.

He sure as shit ain't perfect, but he's head and shoulders above the rest of the field.I wish I could vote for him, but a move back to the Burgh ain't possible for me now. Bummer.
