ABC News: Hostage taker a well-known local resident with history of mental illness
Hostage Situation at Clinton Office

A man who claimed he had a bomb strapped to his body walked into a Hillary Clinton campaign office in Rochester, N.H., initially taking four hostages, law enforcement sources said.

Two of the four hostages -- an adult and a child -- subsequently were released, the sources said. It was unclear whether additional hostages were released.

The man with the apparent pipe bomb asked to speak to Clinton, a source said.

The suspect was a well-known local man with a history of emotional issues who allegedly told his son to watch the news, a well-placed law enforcement source told ABC News' Pierre Thomas.

3. I hope they find out who planted the seeds of this terrible idea into his head
Mentally ill or not, my bet is that rightwing hate-radio hosts, or their minions, were the catalysts for his rotten scheme.

5. I suspect this incident has little to do with Clinton herself...
And more to do with some crazy asshole feeling the need to get attention.

7. I live in the next town over & know a guy that fits this description...
I dont know if its the guy I'm think of, but if it is, Ive spoken with him several times. He roams around Dover & Rochester, picks through trash and tries to sell people things on the street. I'm curious to see if its the guy Im thinking of. Either way, this is really scary.

8. Libertarian conspiracy theorist, thinks a chip in his head (according to an acquaintance)
Edited on Fri Nov-30-07 04:26 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
"Lots of political theories. The furthest thing from a Democrat. Accosted passersby about the chip the govt. put in his head"

The usual stressors... failed marriages, death of brother, financial trouble

11. A friend of his on the phone to Fox. (very concerned... said many people liked the guy, but he just
went off the rails lately)

The usual profile. Funny how predictable/cliche mental illness often is.

16. wow. Its been really damn cold here.
Sleeping outside in freezing weather? Man... I could hardly stand to bring the dog outside this morning!

I just wish they'd show a photo of the guy so I could tell, once and for all, whether or not its who I think it is... its all so damned disturbing.

15. What's this dude's name?
MSNBC is reporting his name as "Isenberg".

FauxNews is reporting his name as "Stanley".

One of the two is gonna have major egg on its face.

21. Yup. I've been hearing it too. It must be quite a town where multiple families
come forward assuming that the hostage guy must be their dad.
