Biden: No Drama, No Bullshit
Not just in the way he campaigns. I want to spend the next four-to-eight years in relative peace. Biden has respect from the left, the right, and the media. Sure they'll attack whoever, but Biden has the best chance of getting more done with the least amount of roadblocks thrown at him.

They'll try to attack his record: But if you look at his record, nearly every piece of major legislation he's introduced has been bipartisan - Biden/Lugar, Biden/Brownback, etc. With his Iraq resolution, he's shown he get a plan through - despite the current atmosphere, and right under bushie-boy's "stay the course" stubborness - with 75 votes.

They'll try to smear his character: They'll probably just make something up. Or re-hash the 20-year-old plagarism flap - which he was cleared of, but that hasn't stopped the distortions.

The media will try to stir things up: He handles the media well, and doesn't really fall for their "gotcha" style.

They'll make fun of his hair plugs - and for that, I hope he runs against Rudy, Thompson or McCain. Mitt has great hair and may prove to be a fierce adversary in this department.

He's made a few gaffes (law of averages) - Late Night talk-show fodder, mostly.

I think we'll have an easier time of things with Biden at the helm. We all deserve a break from the endless noise. It won't go away, but it'll probably quiet down a bit.

2. Every damn day I learn something new about him that amazes me even more.
To sing my old song, I've NEVER been as totally confident of a candidate before in my life!

About the hair plugs. (First of all, I've actually never been able to SEE them, but it was suggested that he had a re-do from a bad job.)

When referring to his two brain aneurisms the other day he said he'd essentially had the top of his head removed twice. I hadn't given it any thought before, but hearing that got me wondering if maybe the hair plugs are there to help cover up some scars. Just a thought... not important.

Great post, by the way! :hi:

We're made fun of if we try to replace our hair, or we're made fun of for being bald. There's no getting around it. We're damned if we do, and damned if we don't. This hair plug thing is sooooo lame.

3. Joe also is much better than ANY candidate (either party) at
answering a criticism! I think it was an interview on "This Week" by George S. when George asked Joe what his response is to those who don't like his plan for Iraq and say it won't work! Joe said, "Oh, you don't like my plan? OK, I can accept that. WHAT'S YOUR PLAN?" Then he expl;ained that NO ONE ELSE HAS A PLAN! That was a terrific response IMO!

Edited on Sun Nov-25-07 04:06 AM by Jennifer C
I had a Biden epiphany while watching that interview on TV. It made me realise Biden is without a doubt the most experienced and the best candidate. I honestly think he's the only one who can truly handle the repub attacks. I'm concerned about the others.

18. I can't tell
I heard it over a year ago from a radio talk show host who clearly disliked Biden, but didn't elaborate on "why". She just mentioned "hair plugs". I was disappointed as she is a very intelligent person and I thought such a put-down was beneath her.

6. Absolutely. I think that's part of what draws me towards him.
He's refreshing. He doesn't bullshit, he doesn't avoid questions, he doesn't throw platitudes and pretend they're answers.

He speaks honestly, fairly, and persuasively. And in doing so, he avoids the type of grandstanding and emotionally-charged bombast that leads to partisan hatred.

I believe Biden is the best bet for getting elected, the best bet for giving America a break from hyperpartisanship, and the best bet for accomplishing meaningful things while in office.

8. EXCELLENT point about the hyperpartisanship - it has really damaged our
country. Biden has well-established relationships with many of the Republicans in office, and I think they have deep respect for one another (which is fitting, IMO).

About his speaking style as opposed to grandstanding and emotionally charged bombast: A friend was at the JJ Dinner and talked about how when Joe was just strolling around the stage, one hand in his pocket, TALKING to the people - there wasn't a sound in the arena. People were LISTENING to what he had to say, as opposed to waiting for the obvious moment to holler and applaud when the other candidates were doing their 'acts'.

I just can't praise the man enough - he's truly exceptional.

I'm so impressed with Biden as a candidate, I volunteered -- spent just 2 1/2 hours making calls for an event(Council Bluffs Ia, noon Sunday 11/25, 114 w Broadway). The response was great... and Iowans don't always stay polite the last thirty days b/c they get so many calls.

I intend to do more -- 'cause what a shame if we were offered such a perfect candidate for the times and we didn't respond with big "YES!"

14. Excellent post.. I'm a relatively new fan and have noticed
that, as a rule, all the Biden posts on here are relatively calm-toned without a lot of the flaming that goes on elsewhere. That speaks a lot for the kind of people who back Biden and, perhaps, about the man himself, IMHO.

"He's made a few gaffes (law of averages)" - this one always bugs me as I haven't noticed that he makes any more "gaffes" than most people in the public eye. It has just become a "tag" that the media attached to him and it is the media that keeps reinforcing it. He handles the media very well though which probably comes from years of experience.

21. Biden
I have this friend that lives across the country from me. He is a retired Professor of Political Science in a small but well-respected private college and a very astute observer of the political scene. He and I email often and we have discussed Hillary vs Obama vs Edwards for months now. Earlier this week I sent him an email and I quote, "Question for youin your opinion, which candidate is the most qualified to be our next president. I dont mean legally qualified, I mean the person who would best be able to lead the country in times of trial and tribulation--qualified with moxie, decisiveness and creative thinking. Feel free to eliminate immediately any Republicans." His simple answer was, "Biden." The strange thing is that I had been thinking of Biden when I wrote the email and we had never mentioned his name in any previous communications.

23. JOE BIDEN the best America has
I know many of you are sick of this response, but it's critical that I make people aware of Joe's value as our next President. I believe we cannot lose sight that Joe Biden has so much to offer. Much more than any candidate running. Democrat or Republican.

*******************************************************************
In these troubled and dire time we live in, Joe Biden, to me, encompasses all that we desperately need for our nation:

1) Intelligence
2) Experience in ALL phases of government
3) Strength
4) Respect from world leaders
5) Diplomacy
6) Command of issues
7) Solutions to problems that face our nation
8) Honesty
9) Integrity
10) Respect and trust from his peers
11) Respect and trust from the people who follow him
12) an EXPERT in foreign policy

Joe Biden certainly meets ALL of the criteria above.

I pray and hope every day that Mr. & Mrs. America, the people of Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina know in their hearts, that if we lose Joe Biden, we'll have lost one of the best Presidents our nation will ever have.

Please watch a video I produced to show my support for Senator Biden. If you support him, please send the link below to family and friends, and ask them to do the same.

25. Here's a good quote:
Start paying for universal coverage with $100B in redundancy
Q: Do you favor universal coverage for everyone without exception?
A: Yes, I do.

Q: How would you pay for it?

A: I would pay for it by three ways. 1) I start off dealing with going into a prevention-and-treatment mode here that required us to simplify and modernize the system. That could save $100 billion a year in redundancy that goes on right now. 2) I would immediately provide for catastrophic health insurance for all Americans, and I'd immediately move for insuring every single child in America. That would cost less than what the top 1% tax break costs, $85 billion a year. 3) Then what I would do is I would move to insuring everyone through one of two vehicles. Either a system we work out among the stakeholders, an agreement that everyone essentially gets Medicare from the time you're born or a system whereby everyone can buy into the federal system. Those who don't have the means to buy in, then you subsidize them into the system. I would pay for that by direct revenues.

to sell it, to communicate it to those who are very much against universal healthcare.

Biden's healthcare plan is similar to the one they have in France, which is ranked #1. :)

to the Biden supporters here that even a little bit helps, especially now. I am on his mailing list, as I assume many here are, in which case I am not telling you anything new :-), in any case, an email popped up in my mail box a few moments ago, the main part being:

Because of supporters like you, tomorrow our "Joe is Right" ad is running in papers across Iowa. Since Wednesday, we've already raised more than three-quarters of the cost of these ads through the internet and are now only $12,114 short of paying for the full run.

Can we raise enough to pay for these ads by tomorrow when the papers get delivered?

Click here to donate $100, $150, or $200 to put this print ad in papers across Iowa.

They are of course perfectly happy to accept donations less than $100.

Not one other candidate can match his leadership ability. The fact that he can work with both sides of the isle is a critical. Also, he's a straight shooter. We need that so badly! I'm sick of the up is down, black is white, shit is good, rhetoric.

I love how I got slammed today when I posted to Biden's plan for SS. Some of these supporters actually believe that their candidates will waltz right into office, and their "plans" will immediately be law. That's just not how it works....and candidates who say stupid shit like like it's a fact, will be the candidates of broken promises.

38. You have a lot of company.
And good company, if I do say so myself. Biden is a genuine leader. He's very passionate, and it's real passion, not calculate or an act to put on at a planned moment. He's honest, and would probably be doing better if he wasn't so, because it would be easier to raise money and fool people into supporting him by telling them what they want to hear. Good Lord, things are too screwed up right now not to elect this gifted and experienced senator.

I hope you stick with us. The good Senator can surely use your support.
