Maureen Dowd calls Hillary "control freak". Says Rudy would eat her for lunch in debate
Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 12:30 AM by antiimperialist
Maureen Dowd from the New York Times summarized today what she thinks a Rudy-Clinton campaign would look like: (emphasis added by me)

She is a control freak — that’s why her campaign tried to coach wonky Iowa voters to ask wonky questions — and her male rivals are letting her take control.

The Democrats should not be afraid to mix it up now, while they have a chance, and get all the doubts and disputes out on the table. Taking some flak clearly made Hillary stronger.

If Rudy’s the nominee, he will go with relish to all the vulnerable places in Hillary’s past. At the Federalist Society on Friday, he had barely spoken the word “she” before the audience began tittering appreciatively.

Here is her final passage:

Hillary has her work cut out for her. Rudy will not be so easy to spank.

Any comments?

I don't think Giuliani is a particularly fluid individual and I think he's afraid of her.

Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 12:34 AM by AX10
She claims to be a liberal Democrat but she is always bashing the Democrats.

:puke:

John McCain has the right word to describe her quite well.

Additionally, Dowd is an extreme left-wing man-hater who deep down believes that Hillary should have left Bill after the Monica "scandal".

Edited on Sun Nov-18-07 12:56 AM by aquart
Kerik? Three wives? Multiple adulteries. His children hate him. Vulnerable past? Not to mention that every firefighter in the nation is gunning for him AND the NYPD.

Then to equate a rabid rightwing Federalist Society audience with the American people???

What is the most frightening is Dowd's take that New York Times readers are so ignorant they won't get how full of shit she is. And she might be right.

15. sorta like everybody knows Gore said he invented the internet, or
that he discovered Love Canal, or he and Tipper were the inspiration for Love Story?

that sort of everybody?

as part of the M$M crowd that creates the usually mythical, unalterable campaign narrative, Dowd is beneath contempt, along with her colleagues.

THEY helped create the myth of the compassionate, HONEST, man of the people--B***--as opposed to the craven, dissembling liar, Al Gore

they did the same thing to Kerry last time, and they'll do the EXACT same thing thing with WHOEVER wins the demnom

what credible EVIDENCE is there that Hillary is a 'control freak,' anyway? how, exactly, would that trait be measured?

btw, I can't stand Hillary, I just find it sadly amusing that this sort of unquestioned smear always works against dems, and is always accepted as gospel, helping to implant the narrative that forms a sub/unconscious mindset with the average news consumer/voter: Gore the liar, Kerry the flipflopper, Hillary the BITCH, Edwards the preening trial lawyer, Obama the....dunno yet; just wait until/if he gets the nod (he won't, so that narrative won't be established)

18. Here's a description of Maureen Dowd's ideology
As seen a couple of months ago by progressive blogger Bob Somerby, who protested Media Matters labeling Dowd as "progressive" in a recent media study:

Is Maureen Dowd a “progressive” columnist? We can’t imagine why we’d say that. We’ve read her carefully over the years, and it seems to us that she rarely expresses an actual view on any political or policy matter. Instead, she dithers and dallies on matters of trivia, voicing a range of utterly pointless and utterly predictable observations. And she’s largely an equal opportunity fool; she has criticized Gore’s bald spot and Giuliani’s comb-over alike. In short, Dowd isn’t progressive, or centrist, or conservative. More than anything, Dowd is a non-political throwback. She captures the fatuous world of the 50’s “women’s page,” in which the writer was allowed to opine about the hats at the recent parade. She rages out from this small, stupid world, but it’s the world she’s selected.

29. That's because Rudy dropped out because of cancer
I'm not saying I like Rudy so don't take this the wrong way.

Rudy ran a reeeeaaalll nasty campaign to start it off with Hillary. She didn't fair to well, and like Kerry, didn't respond. Count Chocula was wiping the floor with her in that campaign.

Another simialarity with Kerry was that Hillary was relying too much on the debates to get her by. That's wouldn't have been enough.

I don't think Rudy is rated that highly in New York these days following the Kerik fiasco. With the way Hillary runs her campaign I don't think she has the where with all to remind the voters of it though.

I think she would have a very tough time in that state with the Count.

39. I Read The Entire Article...Your Editing Is Interesting
The debate dominatrix knows how to rattle Obambi.

Mistress Hillary started disciplining her fellow senator last winter, after he began exploring a presidential bid. When he winked at her, took her elbow and tried to say hello on the Senate floor, she did not melt, as many women do. She brushed him off, a move meant to remind him that he was an upstart who should not get in the way of her turn in the Oval Office.

He was so shook up, he called a friend to say: You would not believe what just happened with Hillary.

She has continued to flick the whip in debates. She usually ignores Obama and John Edwards backstage, preferring to chat with the so-called second-tier candidates. And she often looks so unapproachable while they’re setting up on stage that Obama seems hesitant to be the first to say hi.

For the rest of the night she owned him. He was so off his game that he duplicated her dithering performance from the last debate on the issue of whether illegal immigrants should get driver’s licenses. After a tortured exchange with Wolf Blitzer, he ended up saying he favored it — one more sign that the law professor is oblivious to the visceral nature of campaigns.

53. That's part of her argument that she's a control freak
The main point of this whole article was that Hillary's opponents, specially Obama and Edwards did a bad job targetting an otherwise easy target, as reflected by her opinion that Rudy would take advantage of Hil's vulnerable past.
She was angry that Bam and Edwards, in her opinion, let her dominate the debate.

All things considered, I think Dowd has a negative view of Hillary Clinton, and it was reflected on the article.

46. Fair enough. The OP does grossly distort the Dowd article (surprise!)
But she does seem to think that the positive reaction to Rudy's clowning at the Federalist society means something about the dynamics of Hilary debating Rudy.

If Rudy attempted that kind of derision in a national debate it would be fatal... for Rudy.

(I would just as soon say that the McCain 'bitch' clip shows that Hillary would have a hard time debating McCain because everyone cracks up when you call her a bitch.)

But everybody has vulnerabilities...

Of all the issues one chooses to be a federalist it is peculiar he or she would choose drivers licenses for undocumented workers...

I think she can beat Rudi because he's too hot for the medium of television but it won't be easy... I don't like the Ghoul but he is the federal prosecutor who stared mob bosses and Wall Street miscreants in the eye...In fact the thuggishness of the former rubbed off on him...

64. Maureen the Moran
Must think *noun - verb - 911* is the ultimate debate argument. I'm not a Hillary supporter, but she could out-debate him on angel dust.

65. What is the story about her anyway? I used to love her, then started finding out about her.
Is she a Republican? Or is she just a bitch that will do anything - say anything to bring down other candidates who are in the way of her candidate?

It was her that made a big deal outta nothing in '88 when Biden forgot to mention Kinnock's name at the Iowa State Fair.
Sasso taped it, and gave it to her. Biden was the frontrunner back then. But I am sure that Hillary's campaign is better equipped to deal with her shit better than Biden's was in '88.

66. It sounds like the author of the article needs a sex life worse than I do.
