Las Vegas Disgrace
by LV Pol Girl
Fri Nov 16, 2007 at 09:06:55 AM PST

I am so disappointed with the Democratic Party of Nevada. These folks are not Democrats, they're Hillary supporters. The audience was an embarrassment and I am ashamed to be from this city. No wonder we elect mob lawyers for Mayor.

The audience was basically divided into two sections. One side was UNLV, the well behaved section and the other section was the Hillary (oops, I meant the DNC) section. The DNC section is where I was seated and it was filled with Hillary supporters. The guy next to me said he was for Edwards and lied, because the only person he cheered for was Hillary. Loud, obnoxious, women were sitting behind me that talked throughout the debate and sneered "trial lawyer" every time Edwards spoke and called Obama "arrogant". I wanted to turn around and tell them that I guess they didn't have the nerve to call him "uppity".

The Democratic Party in this State is controlled by two people, Rory Reid, who was its past Chairman and Dina Titus, who ran for Governor in '06. The same Dina Titus that lost to the most incompetent politician in Nevada politics, in a year that the Democrats swept into office. This State's Party is in disarray and the '06 election is proof enough for everyone paying attention. All the people seated around me were given tickets by the Party and the ones I talked with said that they worked in Dina Titus' campaign for Governor. Rory Reid and Dina Titus are Hillary's biggest backers in this State and will use their control over this Party to win the caucus for her.

The audience that were around me behaved like they were at a boxing match at Caesar's Palace, cheering for Hillary and booing her two closest opponents, John Edwards and Barack Obama. Real Democrats don't boo Democrats. Obama and Edwards looked like they backed off and just sat this one out, since they were not allowed to contrast themselves against Hillary. The audience members weren't informed, sophisticated Democrats, who could make their own decisions. They were followers who want to be in the lead. Our lousy Party leaders in this State, who could not win an election that the Democrats dominated in '06, are leading them.

I came out of the event solid Obama, loving Kucinich and respecting Edwards.

They "aren't Democrats" because she's upset at the way her candidate tanked?
Puh-lease...

5. Well, that would be a shame.
Because while I am not sure which of the candidates I would vote for, there is one thing I am positive about. And that is that I could not hold my nose tight enough to ever vote for Clinton in the primary or general election.

I mean, shit, if she already has it in the bag then my single vote won't matter much.

16. In the general election the Supreme Court and
many other important things are at stake--including our House and Senate majorities. At least vote, even if you don't vote for president. But do keep the Supreme COurt in mind!

31. What happened in Vegas... spread like a case of Herpes
I too am ashamed of the audience at the debate as well as the free for all on the grounds. The coverage started early and lasted till late in the night and it was like a sporting event only the patrons were ruder, more agressive and the screaming audience was shrill and stupid.

Our elected officials should not be celebrated like a favorite soccer team or WWF champion. I was embarassed for the audience and the moderators. The questions were manipulative, the rush for answers incomplete and reflects erronious solutions to any of the problems our nation faces, and the pressure of the candidates to jump on or off board is part of why people hate politicians.

I believe Hillary did a good job, as did many of the candidates and under such intense pressure and scruitiny they behaved fairly civilly and mostly intelligent and graceful. THe media has a lot to gain by inciting contention, playing up on the miniscule conflicts, and propogating fears and doubts. It is hardly a reflection of the goodness of our Democratic candidates nor does the debate reflect the value of their positions. I will be so glad when this aspect is over and we can focus on DOING what they hope to instigate and not just postulating and promising. Last nights debate reminded me why I avoided paying attention to politics for years and why the American people are sick of this part of our nation.

And oh yeah, Barack Obama is still the best of the best and will be the most amazing PRESIDENT we could ever vote for. I'm sure he'll be glad when all this crap is over and he can just get down to doing what he does best and that's to inspire action and goodness in all of us.

4. I respect this girls opinion.
and agree with it in parts.

However railing against Dina Titus loses points with me for objectivity. Dina is one of the hardest working Dem's in the state and agree with her or not she has earned her right to support whoever she wants.

The last caucus here was a debacle but since that time the dem leadership here has undergone some changes. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out.

The line real democrats don't boo democrats flies in the face of real Dem's "attacking" democrats. The boos were almost all directed toward perceived attacks. It was very clear what CNN's agenda last night was and I don't think anyone in the crowd last night was pleased with that agenda.

The catcalling and booing was obviously from the crowd I suspected. The Nevada caucus should be interesting with the bigshots trying to shout down people who don't want the Cassette Tape Candidate...

13. Also while our mayor might be an ex mob boss
And I certainly dont agree with everything he does. He has done a world of good for las Vegas in his time in office. When it comes to promoting Las Vegas I doubt there has ever been a mayor so effective at it.

He also goes on TV every week and takes calls from the public live and tries to adress their concerns in what seems to be a straightforward fasion.

Theres a lot to dislike about Oscar but at the same time theres also a lot to like about him.

This poster seems to have some axes to grind.

21. ..boxing match at Caesar's Palace...?
Sounded more like a professional wrestling fans :D

Wolfie should have had crowd control in place as they do in most respected debates not to deflect attention away from the candidates.

I have no problem with pre-approved questions, but this was obviously a pre-approved planted question....by the Hillaries. Her response was way too quick and clever to a question that she should have refused to answer on the grounds it was really, really stupid.

But, still leaving the question....Can we trust Hillary to carry us all the way to the White House next year? Yes or No.

39. Same is true of CA Democratic Party
They still can't get over having to deal with us progressives. The word from on high is of course that Hillary will be the nominee and stop making waves. CA is quite ossified at the party level. Most of them are 20 years older than me, and I'm in my 50s.
Staus quo is safer than the unknown.
