"The Politics of Pile-On" from HRC supporters at DU shows Edwards strategy working!
Edited on Tue Nov-13-07 10:04 PM by Kerry2008
I'm not trying ot say all Hillary supporters are piling onto Edwards. I want to say that first off. But the headline can only be so long, and that's the headline I choose. But a good portion of the typical Hillary supporters who bash and beat Obama and Edwards into the wall have shifted their efforts away from mostly attacking Obama to mostly attacking Edwards. Why? Because while both Edwards and Obama have given criticism of Mrs. Clinton, Senator Edwards has came out full force trying to push across the difference between himself and Clinton. Showing he's the candidate of change, and Senator Clinton's the candidate of the status quo.

I have to admit, it's working. Maybe not 100% in Edwards efforts, but it is nailing at Clinton's support. National polls are showing Clinton's lead shrinking, and I saw a poll someone posted on DU (if someone could post the link, I would appreciate it) showing Edwards neck and neck with Hillary in a dead heat in Iowa. And with the bad press Clinton's gotten with the tip-at-the-restaurant story and her staff planting questions, I understand why some on DU have resorted to desperate attacks on John Edwards.

So whether they like to admit it or not, it's working. Hillary Clinton's still leading in fundraising and in the national polls. But when the race is hitting a fever pitch, her campaign is making their first big mistakes and the Edwards campaign has came at her swinging. Oh, and how about that Barack Obama guy? Should be an interesting race :)

Note to minority of Hillary supporters attacking Edwards left and right, what about the politics of piling on? You know, the kind of activities you're engaging in ;)

1. All too many of her supporters here
have to struggle to get beyond the pathetic. They post the same shit time and time again and it doesn't help their candidate in the least. People recognize pure astroturf when they see it. Especially when it comes from the same people time and again.

2. If he or his supporters can't take the heat, I suggest you get out of the kitchen.
It's one thing for supporters to do it. It's quite another for the candidates. BTW I haven't even begun to go after Edwards, but you will be one of the first to know when I do.

3. Who said he can't take the heat? He's taking it very well, and he'll come out strong in Iowa ;)

4. Listening to one of the talking heads today
or yesterday...basically they said that even though Hillary and Obama are leading, they have BOTH lost support. The ones that gained the support were Edwards and Richardson.

13. Barack and anyone BUT Edwards would be a much more powerful ticket.
Why on earth would Obama want Edwards for his running mate? He saw how ineffective Edwards was in 2004, no need to go that route again.

Obama + Edwards = the Pukes get their asses handed to them. I mean 1964 Presidential Election landslide territory.

25. I know, I love both of them.
An Obama/Edwards or Edwards/Obama ticket would have me jumping for joy. Edwards brings his blue-collar cred, Obama brings his Netroots cred, that is a recipe for a landslide Democratic victory.

14. the criticism is all across the board
From Clinton supporters, Obama supporters, Biden supporters, Kucinich supporters. Dodd supporters, what few there are. Edwards' smarmy, two-faced, self-serving hypocrisy is plainly visible to all but his most starry-eyed thralls. The "piling on" is by no means limited to Clinton's people. Yes, Edwards has "come out swinging", though I don't think he's going to like it much when his opponents start swinging back.

17. Where in the hell are Hillary supporters b ashing Obama
they only time they fight back is in the absolute manufactured and flaming posts by Obama supporters. Some with information 10 and 15 years old. She killed her cats, she is a lesbian, oh no, she had an affair with Vince Foster and killed him, she had an affair with Musharriff. What's that.

You can go back for the last 20 pages and practically every other post is bashing HIllary...of course the Obama groupies, are twisting it around. THEY ARE THE BASHERS AND THEY KNOW IT.

Bashers---you know who you are!

Actually, Hillary has been bashed for years, long before Obama and Edwards were even a glimmer in the Washington political scene.

She's tough and we need somebody like her. At least Hillary has the good sense to bash the RIGHT PERSON, George W. Bush. I've never heard her bash J.E. or B.O.(snicker) Jeebus, I have yet to hear them speak a bad word about the current President. Or any Republican for that matter.

Barack and John need some new material. Their criticisms are tedious and boring and lacking in substance. John Edwards was a senator for one term and that's the extent of his political experience. Barack is a senator but to hear him talk you'd think he was a foreign policy expert. He's had NO experience dealing with foreign leaders and Hillary has.

Obama talks a good talk but he hasn't shown me that he can walk the walk.

Before this campaign is over there are going to be a lot of bruises and hurt feelings. I've noticed that the attacks on Hillary are of a personal nature for the most part and nothing to do with her political prowess.

She laughs too loud.
Edwards didn't like her outfit.(at one debate)
She claps too much.
She's shrill; she's too self-contained; she's cold.
She's too ambitious, calculating and scheming.
She can't be trusted.
She's a Red Sox fan; she's a Yankee's fan.

All of these talking-points were formed by the neo-con, neo-evangelical right-wing propaganda machine long before Obama and Edwards came on the scene.

The criticisms I hear on DU are the same criticisms I've heard since 1992---all coined by Clinton-haters whose main purpose was to take the Clintons down.

They almost succeeded too.

he does then the dems should dissolve the party and begin again. I cannot support a person that is pissed at the world and mad beyond contempt. You want a 48 state run by the repubs? then let edwards be the nominee.

36. This is hilarious. Hillary has to eat shit day in and day out.
But the second another candidate gets a taste of anything, the supporters cry and whine about the mean old Hillary supporters.

Its almost like you just arrived at GDP and missed the daily attacks on Hillary (most of which are nonsense rather than issue discussions).

As far as its "working". It would appear Edwards and his supporters have pissed off Hillary supporters here. But I would be very careful what you wish for.
