Hillary puts Georgia in play according to latest poll...
Edited on Tue Nov-13-07 11:04 AM by SaveElmer

WAGA-TV, the local Fox affiliate in Atlanta, is out with a new poll that shows Hillary Clinton within four points of Rudy Guiliani and three points of Fred Thompson in a hypothetical general election match-up.

The poll, which was conducted by Rasmussen Reports, took place between November 7th and 8th; included a survey of 500 likely voters; and has a margin of error of +/- 4.5%.

2008 Presidential General Election Match-Ups

Guiliani - 48%
Clinton - 44%
Other - 5%
Not Sure - 2%

Thompson - 47%
Clinton - 44%
Other - 7%
Not Sure - 3%

From the same poll:

Giuliani 51
Obama 37

Thompson 48
Obama 39

7. Damned Yankee vs. Damned Yankee. At least Hillary lived in Arkansas.
Also, don't underestimate the Georgians who stay home as a protest. Thompson is the R polling best in Georgia, as a comparison.

2. I Like Clinton's Chances But I'll Be The First To Admit GA Is A Long Shot
I'm not one of these supporters who tries to blow smoke up people's asses by saying my candidate can win states that are a bit of a reach...

If any Dem is winning red GA he's on his way to a landslide... BC won it in 92 in a three man race but I believe lost it in 96...

4. There Will Be A Third Party, Probably Liberterian, And Some Scattered Votes
To win GA the Dem needs to get up to about 48.5%...

Maybe...

11. I'd like her chances there against Huckabee - she leads him in Arkansas, bigtime.

The world is full of disaffected Huckabee campaign workers, former employees and garden-variety Republicans who love to pass on tips about a governor they'd found self-centered and untrustworthy. If you think he left a well of warm feelings in Arkansas, note that Hillary Clinton had raised more money in Arkansas at last report and that a recent University of Arkansas Poll showed her a 35 to 8 percent leader over Huckabee in the presidential preferences of Arkansas residents. Only one-third of 33 Republican legislators have said they will support him for president.

5. Not a chance.
The selfish fundie and libertarian mouthbreathers here would start shooting minorities at the polls if her chances got anywhere close to even.

This is Neal Boortz country.

8. Do you read that pork buster guy (Jason)? He said if Huckabee was the nominee,
he would seriously consider Hillary. His issue is fiscal conservatism. I was shocked by that, but agree that the fundy/extreme Libertarian bent of the state means the R wins.

6. Puts it into play? What a joke.
She wouldn't win GA. I know she couldn't win in my homestate of Missouri, so how the hell would she win GA? Be honest with yourself.

9. This isn't surprising at all
Hillary Clinton is already in general election mode. A lot of states will be in play. She is getting her ducks all in a row from state to state, while the other Dem candidates fight for second place in the primaries.

10. Exactly.
Right now, it's pretty much gotten to the point where it's her election to lose.

12. Sorry to say Diebold has GA sewed up.
GA has always "been in play" in the polls. The problem is that in order to convert the polling number into real votes you have to go thru the Diebold voting machines, which as far as I know not only are never audited to verify the results but don't even have any paper to audit. Roy Barnes had an 11% pt poll lead in 02 four days before the election and lost by 5% points, a 16-pt flip. Cleland had about a 5% pt lead in the same poll and lost by about 13%. If that flip is possible without anybody really protesting, then Diebold can do anything it wants to do in GA.

Unless the people who program the machines change their minds or Dem hackers are able to be the last ones to hack the machines, there's not much chance of any Dem winning. None of the hacks will be detectable.
