Al Franken declines to label himself as a 'critic of the war' on Hardball
instead he labels himself as a critic of the Administration and 'the way we went to war'.

Sound familiar?

Sometimes this board absolutely amazes me. Okay, okay...go ahead and tear Al apart. It's a self fulfilling prophecy that Dems must eat their young.

Or at least try making a point. That's always helpful.

11. I think his political commentary is worthwhile
He does a good job of putting backbone in the average democrat.
Not saying I agree with everything he says of course.

What exactly is your point? Is it that it is the same position as Kerry's?

You know, I think for myself and even people I respect have no bearing on my beliefs and thoughts.

do you stop every couple of paragraphs to call up the newspaper office and ask the reporter: "What exactly is your point?"

Perhaps?

Maybe not the call, but questioning reporting is a pretty good idea. It's actually something that's pretty basic in journalism schools. Getting a point across, things like clarity, are pretty important in journalism.

10. He's a bit of an embarrassment.
He doesn't really know much about politics or history and is just a comedian. Somehow he's managed to be a spokesman for the left. We need to get rid of jokers like Michael Moore and Franken as our spokespeople because it makes us look flippant and not serious. I'm sick of people idealizing Franken when Chomsky doesn't make jack shit.

What are you talking about? Franken is immensely superior to Chomsky, because Chomsky is just a libertarian socialist, and leaning towards communist.

28. Haha, nice try.
Chomsky is a socialist (the libertarian part just means he's for civil liberties and not a Soviet-type communist). So what? Franken is a funny guy who puts his foot in his mouth too often.

30. I know what a libertarian socialist is,
and I, too, think the name is funny. Those people just want to make their arguments seem more valid, so that's why they call themselves libertarians.

18. I agree with part of this sentiment. There are plenty of incredible voices
for the left, but the media intentionally passes over them and choses to pretend that Babs Streisand, Franken and that other comedienne represent liberal opinion.

I don't blame the celebrities -- they're entitled to voice their opinion. I blame the networks and Bill O'Rielly, for e.g., for pretending that the entertainers are the voice leading the left.

Yeah, he'd be a much better spokesman for "the left". Franken represents the democratic mainstream, and Chomsky represents the few thousand pretentious college kids who pretend they understand what he's talking about more than half the time.

46. That's probably because Franken is an open-minded, intelligent person
and he doesn't just read the hard-left news about foriegn policy. I think that the UN/NATO removing Saddam or getting him to exile himself would have been worlds superior to leaving him in power.
