Senator Biden threatens punitive move in Congress
WASHINGTON, Nov 4: Senator Joseph R. Biden, chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said on Sunday that the United States should consider taking away F-16 fighter jets and other military equipment from Pakistan if the Musharraf regime does not withdraw the decree imposing an emergency rule.

Senator Biden told CBS television that he had just exchanged telephone calls with President Pervez Musharraf, urging him to reconsider his decision.

Senator Biden, who is also a Democratic candidate for the 2008 presidential election, said if elected, he would make it clear to Gen Musharraf that our patience wasnt unlimited with him.

Mr Biden said the Bush administration did not seem to know how to deal with this situation as theres still this faint hope that this martial law will last only a day or two. But I think were kidding ourselves.

7. Take them away???? That's realistic.
We need to stop funding them, stop future deliveries and stop supplying parts.

However, don't we also have a shiny new pipeline in Pakistan?

Why does the US keep backing dictators?

8. Because Musharraf, even tho he is a dictator, is holding Pakistan together.
Kinda like Saddam did, but not nearly as crazy.

9. Despite his problems, we need him to hang in there
The alternatives are very corrupt (Bhutto or Sharif) or are Islamic fundamentalists. Given the choices, Musharraf is the only hope for stability, and he's barely hanging on.

Oddly enough, his people's biggest beef with him is his working with the US. There is a tremendous amount of anti-American hate there. Osama became a common name for new babies after 9/11.

So far he's had Allah, America, and the Army, but it looks like he might just have Allah now.
