47. What does that have to do with this video?
Over time, her performance in that debate will start to affect the polls. It's too bad this is the best you could come up with to defend her performance.

53. In Hillary-land, poll results equal approval from God
Who cares if what you're doing is morally supportable or beneficial for the country? As long as you can keep a plurality of the voters confused (taking into account the margin of error), that's all the validation you need.

75. Notice that you got no reply?
The taken out of context is a favorite phrase it seems. We got the same thing over at DailyKos today.

It was ALL in context and in sequential order. Nothing in any of her sentences, before or after the clips, warrant an "out of context remark".

For those in doubt, please do your own research and check the transcript:
http://blog.cleveland.com/pdextra/2007/10/transcript_of_presidential_deb.html

Begin video:

Was it Tim Russert?

Russert's voice

"Why do you have one public position and one private position?"

Was it something we said?

Edward's voice

"Unless I missed something, Senator Clinton said two different things in the course of about two minutes"

Or was it double-talk?

On Iraq

Clinton's voice and picture (split screen)

"I stand for ending the war in Iraq, bringing our troops home."

"We're going to have troops remaining there, guarding our embassy. We may have a continuing training mission, and we may have a mission against al Qaeda in Iraq."

On Social Security

Clinton's voice and picture (split screen)

"But on specific issues I've come out with very specific plans. With respect to Social Security, I do have a plan."

"...but personally, I am not going to be advocating any specific fix until I am seriously approaching fiscal responsibility."

On Immigration

(Russert's voiceover question)

It was a Yes or No question

"Do you, the New York Senator Hillary Clinton, support the New York governor's plan to give illegal immigrants a driver's license?"

(Clinton in 4 screen split with the following statements in order):

"I did not say that it should be done, but I certainly recognize why Governor Spitzer is trying to do it."

SEN. DODD: Wait a minute. No, no, no. You said yes, you thought it made sense to do it. ` SEN. CLINTON: No, I didn't, Chris.

"It makes a lot of sense. What is the governor supposed to do?"

"Do I think this is the best thing for any governor to do? No."

We still don't know the answer.

That's the Politics of Parsing.

8. I understand her response on Iraq - it was an accurate statement of what
our future there might be. If your candidate said that, you'd probably see that, too.

I also understand the driver's license response. She initially said she didn't think it was the best plan, but certainly understood the Governor's reason for promoting it.

I don't see anything wrong with her responses to either of those questions. Picking them apart isn't productive for anyone.

Now, the Kyl-Lieberman vote is an entirely different issue...

*It is Hillary's refusal to take a clear and consistent stand on any issue that has handed this to the Republicans.

*It is Hillary's politics of Triangulation that has handed this to the Republicans.

*It is Hillary's refusal to answer a direct question with a direct answer that has handed this to the Republicans.

I had a conversation recently with a friend, and I asked her why she thought Senator Clinton was being pushed so hard.

And truthfully, I've seen numerous expressions on this very board about how Bill Clinton will "advise" his wife, etc.

I just don't know if I'm comfortable with that.

Trying to defend her performance in that debate is asinine, the Iraq occupation response is the only one that can be defended. That being said, she needs to put it behind her, if she doesn't she will have the potential to lose.

Can't your read...? I've seen the light. Heavily edited Youtube videos are better than actual research on position and issue statements. I'll be basing all my votes on Youtube videos from now on. Get in line pal... the little dixie cups are almost full.

Just so you'll know-- I have neither decided on nor ruled out any candidates at this point. Which is one of the major reasons you guys give me a laugh-- the kind of laugh that is half pity and half :wtf:

72. Oh wow
Like you can't do an ad like that with any politician answering tough questions. If someone is mentally 10 years old I could see how this ad might change their mind.

78. You should work for the GOP. You do a great job

editing and damn I thought I was watching the handiwork of bill oreilly and we know how al franken slammed his ass on air about the editing......

I think I know why all you Obama and Edwards folks are so pissed and trying all you can to inject something into their campaign, and it is the polls a few days out from the debate of Tuesday last and HRC's numbers have increased over obama and edwards.....I know that just chaps your asses....
