Obama should not have ran for President
Edited on Tue Oct-30-07 06:10 PM by bigdarryl
because its becoming quite obvious that this country is still not ready for a African American running for President and winning. As evident by what has happened in the last week with all the media negativity toward Obama starting with the gospel tour and now he's been made out to be the bad guy on this Clinton/Obama bullshit on whether he should go after her. Why does the question even have to be framed in that matter. thats my two cents hopefully he gets out of Washington and go back to Illinois and win the Governorship.

5. I don't see anything in the media indicating they're criticizing him
because he's black. Remember, Obama has been saying SINCE HE SAID HE WAS A CANDIDATE that he was NOT going to do attack politics. He doesn't believe in negative campaigning, and his is the campaign of hope. It's very difficult for him to now change that because it doesn't seem to be working as well as he thought.

14. You got THA RIGHT! The Pubs are doing it already, and I think
the only reason they're currently only picking on Hillary is because she's the current front runner. Believe me, if we chose a candidate we THINK doesn't have anything in their background to emphasize, they'll just make stuff up!

17. Such as Obama and the madrassa?
Screw the issues -- they want a nasty fight, and they're not getting it. I think it was Russert this evening who made mention of two animals in a cage. Yeah, I want that moderating debates.

6. I don't think the current criticism has anything to do with his race.
I don't think he should have run for president this year, either, but that was because of his level of experience and not because of his race.

8. Obama's failings have nothing to do with his race
But if it makes you feel better to believe they do then go ahead and do so.

9. Quite the contrary.
He's not being made out to be the bad guy - he's being encouraged to go after her. The media wants a fight. Are you that naive to expect Corporate Media to frame any differently? It thrives on negativity, whether it's "cured" homosexuals or $400 haircuts or cackly laughs.

What are he, Clinton and Edwards polling at in Iowa? I think I heard Clinton with 29 percent, Edwards at 23 percent and Obama at 22 percent. He's competitive, in spite of the Clinton juggernaut and his perceived "lack of experience."

America IS ready for an African American -- it just has to be the right candidate. Same with the female factor: we're ready, we just need the right candidate.

13. If African Americans wait until they are deemed ready.....
We would still be unable to vote, back of bus, etc. etc. and etc.

I do believe Americans will be more willing to accept a White Woman over a Black Man.

This last week of hatefulness is nothing new and will only make us stronger, MSM, the gay community along with certain candidate's supporters may win this battle, but the war for equality will never end.

We have come too far, to turn around now! :)

21. Uh, the "last week of hatefulness" was not started by the MSM, the LGBT community,
a "certain candidate's supporters, or anyone else other than Senator Obama.

Interesting strategy, by the way, in that "war for equality".

27. The gay community *is* fighting a war for "equality". How did you miss that?
I can't believe the black community and the gay community are being leverage against each other in this way. And on the issue of equality?! Jeez-Louise, how many gay people were a part of the civil rights movement? Bayard Rustin wasn't the only gay man fighting the battle for civil rights and equality. And while I'm thinking of it, I'd like to claim Mr. Rustin as part of my cultural legacy, too.

I'm an ally and advocate of all marginalized people. I'm not sure I like what you're suggesting about the "hatefulness" of the gay community. I don't hate Obama or his supporters but I'm disappointed by the narrow definition of equality around here...

29. Why are you trying to turn this into a blacks vs LGBT issue?
It isn't, nor should it be. We're fighting for equality as much as you are, both for ourselves and for you (and don't forget that there are many black LGBTs). This notion that it's us vs. you is wrong and divisive.

18. Don't run for Prez? Go back home?
Give up? Hell No! Just because people hurl some criticism and negativity at him? It's not time to go home, it's time to keep on pushing. Remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.? You want death threats, criticisms, and negativity? Dr. King got a shit load and them some. But through all his trails and tribulations, he changed the world for the betterment of all americans and the world. This present day environment is in no way compared to the Civil Rights Movement and the push for Civil Rights and equality. Just as Obama stated on the Tavis Smiley Show two weeks earlier: "Someone said to me that that was a bad article written about you" and "the poll numbers are not in your favor" Obama said "what", you're worried about that"? Believe me, Obama knows and understands the current climate.

This is peanuts compared to Dr. King and Obama understands the full reality of the situation. Yes, it is time to run and RUN HARD! Don't let a few critics and nay sayers deter you from your goals. This is all part of the game. As long as this Earth rotates, something or someone will try to trip you up and make you quit. They want to see you fail. Obama is strong and he won't let this "scrum" get in his way. Going home due to fear is not an option.

20. What?
Oh come on now. Nothing you mentioned has anything at all to do with his race. I am a middle aged, white, straight woman and I would dearly love to have an African American or a woman as president. I think Obama goofed at best with this last issue or is not what he claims at worst. I have not spoken with anyone who has even mentioned that he is African American other than to say it was exciting that we live in a time when he could run for POTUS. Nothing that has been going on has anything to do with his race.

I know what you said is your two cents but that's about all it's worth.
