Nader voters crippled Gore in 2000; now they love him

BY CELESTE KATZ
DAILY NEWS POLITICAL CORRESPONDENT

Sunday, October 28th 2007, 4:00 AM

Right or wrong, people who voted for Ralph Nader get blamed for costing Al Gore the 2000 election.

Now, some of those very same voters are throwing themselves into a new - and nonexistent - campaign: Gore 2008.

And they say there's no irony at all.

"In 2000, Nader was the most progressive candidate, and in 2008, Al Gore would be the most progressive candidate. There's no dissonance at all, I would say," argues Bud Plautz, the New York head of the movement to draft the former vice president. Newly minted Nobel Laureate Gore, of course, is the biggest noncandidate candidate in the arena.

In 2000, Nader sucked up more than 97,000 votes in Florida - many times the infinitesimal margin by which President Bush beat Gore there. Nader drew about 2.9 million votes nationally - pulling support from Gore without earning the Green Party a permanent ballot slot.

- snip -

"The right wing never apologizes and never admits to making mistakes, and I think the left is full of guilt and angst and this collective mentality that we were indirectly responsible for Bush's eight-year reign of terror," he said.

2. It's precisely the same bunch that hate HRC for the same reasons.

Pretty much being lead by the nose by backroom gop operators talking up the old "owned by corporation they're all the same" bromides.

All the while the nader voters remain in denial, since the election was "stolen".

3. so all criticism of Hillary is of GOP origin?
Sorry, I don't have to listen to Rush and Hannity to figure out that a former college GOP member.wal-mart board member, goldwater girl who voted for war with iraq and is helping Bush push for one with Iran (to reposition herself for th general election) is not on my side.

And Gore is not the same man who ran in 2000. he's figured out how to deliver his message and has reconnected with the base. Most of the criticisms of him in 2000 were valid ones. He even says he ran a lousy campaign and doesn't blame Ralph. In fact, they get along rather well these days.

The old 'with us or against us' tactic carville's cooked up to deflect all criticism of Hillary from any side isn't going to fly on this site, kiddo

6. I'm not a Nader fan, but I understand
that the people who voted for him in Florida, and elsewhere, only went to the polls to vote for him. Where were the 75 million voters who just stayed home in '00 and '04? There was that difference.

7. This validates my opinion that Nader voters are fucking idiots.
Aside from voting for Nader in 2000 and throwing the election to 8 years of bush, now they're pouring their efforts in to getting someone to run who clearly does not want to. If Al Gore wanted to run, he would have declared by now. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves? Isn't the NH primary filing date in the next week or so? He's not gonna run, and these people trying to draft him are showing the same irrationality that led them to vote for Nader.
