5. I'd like to see concrete evidence that the $2M actually makes it to the charity
along with Rush's matching donation. I'd be very surprised if the charity actually releases it's financials and shows that the money was received, it is being used and how it's being used. I really believe this is a political scam.

6. Your skeptism is justified...
I wouldn't be half surprised if, like so many "events", the whole thing is bullshit theater...

9. Actually Rush said he will match that 2.1 mil
I will be watching the IRS reporting to see if he does. Limbaugh is one of the directors for this charity.

8. Hush Limbaugh must have been taking an oxydump in his drawers over this.
The thought of having to back up his BS rhetoric with his checkbook must have him in a swivet.
He was so freaked out that his dispatched his army of 80-IQer's to post stuff here...

10. yes. Winning bidder was Betty Brown Casey
She is a well-known, albeit somewhat reclusive DC philanthropist. Her late husband, who I believe is the source of her money, was a member of FDR's administration. She is best known in DC for having donated millions of dollars to support the DC opera. She's not known for her political activism. A check of opensecrets.org indicates that she has been a consistent, if not extravagant supporter of repub candidates, but she also recently donated $4600 to Obama's campaign.

13. Taxes may have to be paid on this "charity" - Questions as to whether
it is a charity or not. Either way, Rush has to pay big time....Love it.

14. I guess it is a good thing that 4.2 million
will go to the children of fallen police and soldiers.

Don't like it that Rush comes out looking good but I am happy for the children who will benefit with college scholarships.

16. I believe it is a foundation/endowment and there are questions whether that can be
classified as a charity. I saw it on FreeRepublic, no link, sorry.

17. I think someone is confusing two different things
First, something seen on freeperworld without a link isn't terribly reliable.
Second, I think there is some confusion about the foundation that won the auction and the charity that benefits. There is no issue about the status of the charity that is the beneficiary of the organization. It is a well-documented, legitimate charity that is part of the Combined Federal Campaign of charities. As for the foundation that bought the item, as far as I know, no one has ever raised any questions about its bona fides as a tax-exempt charitable foundation. Indeed, an article about foundation a few years ago noted that unlike many such foundations, the Eugene Casey foundation paid its trustees nothing for their work and had no regular paid staff, meaning it has very low administrative costs.
