Mr. Obama writes that “conservatives — and Bill Clinton — were right about welfare as it was previously structured: By detaching income from work and by making no demands on welfare recipients other than a tolerance for intrusive bureaucracy and an assurance that no man lived in the same house as the mother of his children, the old A.F.D.C. program sapped people of their initiative and eroded their self respect.”

13. I have thought for some time that Obama is more like Bill

than Hillary is like Bill.

Bill "needs/wants to be liked" - Obama seems the same. Both want to get along with others - find the middle ground.

Bill and Obama both use natural charisma to attract people but Hillary is more interested in policy and process. She likes the debate, the fight for ideas.

I noticed during the last debate (w/Tim Russert)that as the evening went on she became more comfortable and more relaxed. She was really enjoying herself even though many thought it had been her most difficult debate as both Tim and the other candidates were more aggressive toward her. She liked it - she thrived on it.

Frankly I think if a governor from Arkansas named Bill Clinton was running in this race against Senator Hillary Rodham she would be trouncing him in the polls. Right now the country wants a fighter not a nice guy.
