Elvis Costello to play Hillary's Birthday Bash
Hillary Clinton-- presidential candidate, New York Senator, and former First Lady-- will celebrate her 60th birthday in style, with a bash taking place October 25 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. The celebration, which is also a fundraiser for her presidential campaign, will feature a performance by legendary English singer-songwriter Elvis Costello.

The party is being thrown by Hillary's husband, former President Bill Clinton, as well as New York Senator Chuck Schumer, New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine, and New York Congressman Charles Rangel.

The event is open to the public and tickets are on sale now.

26. ...then sell you computer. You're not doing anything worthwhile with it...
I've asked you in numerous posts on numerous threads to give me a simple, honest explanation of your support for Hillary Clinton and you've never once given me an answer.

Do you think I owe you an explanation for anything?

You've only belittled and bullied me.

From the "progressive" lexicon - "belittle and bully." What someone does when they disagree with a "progressive."

29. You owe yourself and the world at large to consider the following problems with Clinton's record
before you bounce off cheerleading and voting for her:

Do you agree with her YES vote on the Kyl-Lieberman Iran Amendment which names Iran's military a terrorist organization and, by proxy, gives Bush the authority to attack Iran as a "Terrorist Nation"/"Nation Harboring Terrorists"?

Do you agree with her YES vote on the Iraq War Resolution?

What you make of her comments regarding "The Surge": "I also made a full commitment to martial American power, resources and values in the global fight against these terrorists. That begins with ensuring that America does have the world's strongest and smartest military force. We've begun to change tactics in Iraq, and in some areas, particularly in Al Anbar province, it's working. We're just years too late changing our tactics. We can't ever let that happen again. We can't be fighting the last war. We have to be preparing to fight the new war."

What do you make of the fact that she co-sponsored the "Workplace Religious Freedom Act" which would allow pharmacists to have the legal right deny customers the ability to fill their prescriptions for contraceptives?

Do you agree with her proposed health care plan which would force every citizen to purchase insurance whether they can afford it or not while fattening the bank accounts of the insurance providers?

How do you feel about "The India Caucus" during which she made it clear that she supports the outsourcing of scarce American jobs?

Win me over, Clinton supporter. Tell me why these terrible blights on her record should be of no consequence to me when I vote.

31. we may owe it you ourselves, but then again those "problems" are really just YOUR problems
Interesting thing about you is you can't seem to fathom anyone having another viewpoint and you have some odd impression people have to give you explanations for things on command.

36. What a shock that a Clinton hater would deliberately misrepresent something
"Do you agree with her YES vote on the Kyl-Lieberman Iran Amendment which names Iran's military a terrorist organization and, by proxy, gives Bush the authority to attack Iran as a "Terrorist Nation"/"Nation Harboring Terrorists"?"

Ummm Hezbollah has been designated a terrorist org operating with Iranian support for years, Bush didn't need the declaration for justification. Bush needed the unamended Kyl-Lieberamn and he did not get it. He got a toothless resolution.

"Do you agree with her YES vote on the Iraq War Resolution?"

No and she has said she would not vote for it knowing what she knows now. Of course hindsight is 20-20 there.

"What do you make of the fact that she co-sponsored the "Workplace Religious Freedom Act" which would allow pharmacists to have the legal right deny customers the ability to fill their prescriptions for contraceptives?"

You mean the bill she co-sponsored with John Kerry? Do you even know what the bill says because it does not do what you said it does. It calls for employers to make reasonable accommodations for people's religious practice(ie: being able to wear a turban as a Sikh or take off for Muslim or Jewish holidays) The fear was that because the original was a bit broad it could lead to the example you provided. The bill proposed said nothing of the sort directly. The ACLU supports a more narrowly tailored proposal.

"Do you agree with her proposed health care plan which would force every citizen to purchase insurance whether they can afford it or not while fattening the bank accounts of the insurance providers?"

Except it does not do that anymore than John Edwards plan does. The requirement is that everyone have insurance, those who cannot afford it will be subsidized. Its not single payer but its a step towards that.

"How do you feel about "The India Caucus" during which she made it clear that she supports the outsourcing of scarce American jobs?"

Except she did not do that. She made clear that outsourcing is a reality in the global economy and that you cannot legislate against it. But I love the stink of xenophobia in your line about the "india caucus".

"
Win me over, Clinton supporter"

Sorry, the self important jerk demographic is going Republican this year and is not worth Clinton's time.

34. Me, too! ----- I love Elvis Costello.
Like most artists who are hired for these things, he's probably getting paid like it is a gig. If not, we.... I like his music and always will, but his taste in candidates really sucks.

8. Costello is English and his wife is Canadian. They don't vote in the USA.
My guess is that Costello is getting paid to perform.

Unless someone can prove to me that he is doing this as a favor to Hillary.

Personally I would rather listen to his wife (Diana Krall).

I have ALL her CDs !!! B-)

16. So - why would we let them tell us who is the best candidate??
I don't see Bruce Springsteen commenting on who Brits should vote for in their elections.

But then he is a classy kinda guy! B-)

23. If you don't think Hillary is the best candidate - why would you help her fund-raising?
But I agree in this case it is unlikely that Costello has compared the candidates.

He probably got a phone call from Bill Clinton, and it was kinda hard to say no.

Plus we don't know if Costello is doing this concert for nothing.

And when he wrote a song called Impeach the President, some argued that as a Canadian, he had no business commenting on who should be president. Of course, those comments came from the RW.

22. "Elvis is God." An observation about Mr. MacManus by an old girlfriend of mine.
Nearly correct. Elvis is one of the greatest living songwriters.

Saw him last at a smallish venue here in Atlanta a couple of years ago.

He was about twenty-five feet from me.

Elvis is God.
