Just another day in Theocratic America
News items:

1) Cheney meets (on the taxpayers' dime) at undisclosed location with the rabid, secretive, fundamentalist Council for National Policy.

2) SCOTUS justices attend Catholic Red Mass to pray for the success of the Catholic agenda in the Supreme Court.

3) Clarence Thomas, a sitting Justice, publishes a memoir openly displaying his partisanship and outright hatred of liberals.

4) John McCain says it would be good if the next president were a Christian.

----------------

And where are the mainstream Dem candidates on this great big pile of oppo research? You tell me, because I haven't heard squat.

schmoozing with the deep pockets in the hopes of seducing them to their campaigns, and being seduced instead.

5. Speaking as the descendant of religious refugees
I can tell you that theocracies have killed more people than have secular democracies. And I'll be damned (pun intended) if I'll be run out of another country like my ancestors were.

6. SCOTUS refuses to hear
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 08:03 AM by cali
Catholic Charities case, letting stand a lower court ruling that Catholic hospitals must provide the morning after pill.

SCOTUS refuses to hear a case wherein a lower court affirmed the right of a CA library to refuse to allow religious groups to meet on the premises.

Dems in Congress are actively critical of the right wing segment of SCOTUS. Just because you're unaware of the opposition research being conducted, doesn't mean it's not being done, both on the Congressional level and by groups like People for the American Way.

Your OP is both overly broad and lacking in facts.

Oh, and no, America is not a theocracy.

8. If you cherry pick the info it is!
If one ignores anything that disagrees with ones beliefs, anything is possible.Just like religion. Of course we're not a theocracy.

9. I didn't cherry pick the info
the OP did. I provided facts refuting the OP's arguement. You do know what facts are, don't you?

Obviously, not too well. I meant the OP was cherrypicking facts to point out a theocracy in America, although ignoring facts that point out the silliness of his claim.

10. It is not a theocracy YET
...but unless we make certain that no more wingnuts get elected to the bench, that can change rapidly.

We must WORK to maintain (and to some extent restore) the separation of church and state.

12. I couldn't agree with you more;
that's why I'll support the dem nominee no matter who it is. That's why I support People for the American Way, and those folks in the Congress who are fighting the imposition of a right wing federal judiciary.

14. I know I'm on your ignore list, but don't flatter yourself
Your belief that I'm responding (or anyone else) because you "hit a nerve" is a splendid example of a logical fallacy. When someone posts something so full of misinformation as your OP, they should expect to be challenged and refuted.

15. The Dems seem to be pushing the very same agenda
They daren't speak out, lest they offend the far-right "center" they are desperately pandering to.

16. That's just nonsense.
If there's one issue that the dems have been speaking out on, it's the Judiciary. To suggest that they're pushing the same agenda as the wingnuts is nothing short of ludicrous. Are you actually saying that Kennedy, Feingold, Boxer, Leahy, Brown and at least 25 other dems are pushing for a right wing federal Judiciary? They and their allies have been fighting that, not acquiescing to it.
