Shuster to Rep. Blackburn: “When was the last time a New York Times ad ever killed somebody?”
Shuster: “Let’s talk about the public trust. You represent, of course, a district in western Tennessee. What was the name of the last solider from your district who was killed in Iraq?”

Blackburn:”The name of the last soldier killed in Iraq uh - from my district I - I do not know his name -”

Shuster: “Ok, his name was Jeremy Bohannon, he was killed August the 9th, 2007. How come you didn’t know the name?”

Blackburn: “I - I, you know, I - I do not know why I did not know the name…”

Shuster: “But you weren’t appreciative enough to know the name of this young man, he was 18 years old who was killed, and yet you can say chapter and verse about what’s going on with the New York Times and Move On.org.”

Shuster: “But don’t you understand, the problems that a lot of people would have, that you’re so focused on an ad — when was the last time a New York Times ad ever killed somebody? I mean, here we have a war that took the life of an 18 year old kid, Jeremy Bohannon from your district, and you didn’t even know his name.”

Tucker substitute host David Shuster confronts Rep. Martha Blackburn (R-TN) about the blatant hypocrisy of the Republican party when he asks about Rush Limbaugh’s Senator Betrayus smear against Senator Chuck Hagel and all Blackburn wants to do is rehash tired slams against the New York Times over the MoveOn ad.

As Blackburn prattles on about the NYT betraying the public trust and making sweetheart deals, Shuster turns the tables on her and asks her to name the last soldier from her district who was killed in Iraq — and what do you know? She had no idea what his name was, or even why she didn’t know. Watch Blackburn stutter and get backed into a corner, with Shuster proving she cared more about making partisan hits than she did about the dead soldiers from her own district.

MSNBC, get that man his own show!

Alive or dead, active duty or veteran, they just don't fucking matter to them. They're just a concept used as political dressing.

6. yeah it was pretty good
he erred when he repeated himself the third time as he closed out the interview. That sounded excessive - somewhat oreilly-like.

He'd made the point terrifically. That last sounded like "look at me! lookee what I did"

I'll forgive him though. He's certainly not the first to do that, and I expect he was shooting for exactly what your last line says. Tucker's ratings are in the tank and his contract is up soon. Schuster would be great

Schuster even said something to the msnbc exec who was his next guest about 'brace youself for all the email' on the interview, implying he thought it would be hate mail, but I expect he has his fingers and toes crossed it will be the opposite. I think he was going for broke.

With tweety's recent apparent turnaround, Abram's return with a distinctively anti-administration bent, and now this, I think MSNBC has recognized that KO's ratings are not just the messenger, but also the message.

We have KO's charming ways to thank for (perhaps) breaking down the barrier.

Now if they would just drop all that prison and predator crap...

David, where ya been?
Loved that "deer in headlights" parting shot.
I'm a confirmed Shuster fan now.

if, God forbid, another soldier from her district is killed....only to avoid another televised shameful embarrassment, not because she gives a damn.

11. That was sweet. What Shuster did there
is such a breath of fresh air in a polluted sea of softball questions tossed out by the average bought-and-paid-for so-called "reporter." Job very well done. Hope Shuster gets his own show.

16. To be honest, I think this is foolish. Manufactured outrage is generally a bad idea.

Knowing the names of soldiers killed in Iraq has got nothing whatsoever to do with being able to do her job or not.

This kind of manufactured outrage does not reflect well on DUers.

If it had been someone DUers like who hadn't known then they would, quite rightly, have dismissed the entire episode as entirely meaningless.

There may well be many other very good reasons to dislike her. This isn't one of them.

17. I would like to see all Congresspeople asked this question on a regular basis.
If they are truly representatives of "We, the people" then they should be painfully aware of the tragic impact of the decisions they make.

18. I agree with you to a point. But, it exposed her hypocrisy, and
her willingness to politicize the war. She was caught shilling for the admin.
