Why is Moveon.org better than DU?

We're just as good as them. Our website is better I think. We have awesome stuff like Top 10 Idiots (R), Nance Greggs' rants, Crisis Papers, and so on. We have some great contributors! We're HARD CORE! Why don't I see DU in the papers? Why doesn't Bill O'Biley bitch about us? Daily KOS doesn't excite me like DU. Is it that we don't have as much money? I contributed a small amount, but it was as much as I could. I'll give more but golly darn it, we should make HEADLINES!

Now, compare DU with Kos or MyDD, and you'd have a pertinent answer.

Personally, I prefer DU for the ease of posting here. I can't, for the life of me, despite the tutorial, figure out how to post diaries at Kos. I just can't. And, MyDD is WAY too "moderate" for me most of the time.

17. I see MoveOn as a fundraising, activism site, and while this site has those components from time

to time, it is also a place to vent among those who are supposed to be your peers. Most days DU serves that purpose. But, DU does not issue announcements to the media, or sponsor commercials, or endorse candidates. MoveOn does.

7. I forgot to mention, I really miss Bob Boudelang

He's what got me hooked on DU. And he's apparently gone. Where's our hatemailbag been? I miss that a lot.

character. Which may seem unbelievable, but we've had that from a number of posters here.

It was founded specifically to be an activist presence. DU is more of a place to hang out and get to know like-minded people, although some people here do spearhead some activist action. It takes a very hardy soul to steer this magnificent herd of cats.

There are members of the State Central Committee and Iowa Democratic Party that lurk over in the Iowa Forum. I've actually had them call me after I've posted items. But they never post and in public pretend that DU doesn't exist. There are a small group of us that post and are active politically - why does a small group scare our state party?

But this is Democratic UNDERGROUND, which, one hopes, is the stealth arm of the progressive movement - below the radar, as it were. Somehow, it wouldn't be appropriate for DU to advertise in newspapers or make screaming headlines. Or am I misunderstanding our purpose? I've never heard Bill O'Biley speak, but I'd rather he wouldn't profane the good name of Democratic Underground by uttering it. If we do our job properly, the morning after the next election, the Repukes will be asking, "What the hell just happened?" :hi:

because the two are not the same and they don't have the same function.

A major problem we have on our side is that too often we get too hung up on individual organizations and don't always work together for the common goal.

If, that is, we can agree on what the common goal is.

15. I like DU because it's kept real

There's no one single overriding point of view. If you disagree, you battle it out, with source backup, or STFU. Not too much puffery. No childish troll ratings bullshit. I think the DU admin allows for a pretty rollicking town hall meeting here, because for the most part, they leave us to fend for ourselves in figuring out democracy. I don't care about the media coverage, really, this is about us, not about netroots star power.

Moveon and Kos can have the headlines, but I'll keep my DU. I think our site is informative, entertaining and valuable. We have a tremendous diversity of opinion that I don't believe you get on other sites, when we see our own party in the wrong, we are not afraid to call them on it. I like that we can disagree, and for the most part still unite, its good for us, our party and our country. So for me, its DU all the way!!:toast:
