Online petition complaining to DNC about primaries/was on Fox News

If you are not happy with Terry McAuliffe and the DNC, PLEASE
sign the online petition at:

hhhp://www.petitiononline.com/dnc/petition.html

This is a complaint basically stating that HEY the ENTIRE country gets to vote, and you do not have the right to do as you have done, DNC, and we want the opportunity to voice our complaints formally.

Fox News picked this petition up. As a result of that, I guess, the site is currently running very slowly as people rush to sign it.

17. On the contrary, DebJ. I don't expect you to do anything
I do know that, aside from the shortened nature of this primary season, this election cycle has been run just like any other.

A handful of political newbies are getting their first taste of their guy losing and they want to blame everyone except the candidate.

26. I absolutely hate the setup where Iowa and NH , very small, easily
manipulated, have historically pulled so much weight. I hate it. I want it changed. Not just because of my candidate this time, but for all the primaries to come for all time to come.

29. That's not true. I have always disliked the attention given to Iowa and
New Hampshire, although this is the first time I felt this strongly about a candidate during the primary season. (Because it is the first time I have had the luxury of time to spend investigating candidates)
You obviously believe that you are either a)omniscient or b) a mind reader, but you are not. This system needs to be changed.

33. A woman just called in on CNN from Florida and says she feels like

she has now been disenfranchised twice. She said I guess my vote just doesn't count. Bob Dole says, basically, guess not.

This is why we need all primaries on the same day. Dole said that would be too expensive and would put too much favor on wealthy candidates (gee, like Kerry???). But if advertising for political office is made illegal, and all info is given over national networks just in the words of the candidates themselves....OUR air time, FREE air time, then what of expense, huh? And fairness, and who will feel disenfranchised??? And who can manipulate a mere two small states for their own game? And how can McAuliffe or his subsequent replacements come out and say we are manipulating the primaries on purpose?

6. Let me get this straight...
You are pushing a petition to the DNC featured on the conservative Fox News?

That's interesting.

I'm not a Terry McAuliffe fan either, but this truncated primary schedule is the least of his offenses. He may have actually done something right here.

BTW: In case you are a Dean supporter, Howard Dean liked the shortened primary/caucus cycle just fine when he was leading in the polls before the votes were cast. Now he and his supporters aren't so thrilled with it.

The grass is always greener...

45. The original poster, as well as the person who started the petition,
...were/are Dean supporters. DU has had several Dean supporters who have admitted being new to the political process complaining about the primary season.

Sour grapes pure and simple. They were gleeful when Dean was leading. Now he's not so they want to change the rules.

23. "a regular dem"???
The current primary campaign for the Democratic nomination has shown that the establishment - whether it be the corporate media, the Democratic party, or the Bush administration - is doing all it can to deny or distort our voices.

http://www.our-voices.net/

Yea. Sure. Whatever. "Regular Dems" lump the media, the Democratic Party, and the Bush* administration all together in this "evil plot" to get Dean.

11. Forget the petition
Call the DNC directly and ask to Terry Mac. I did. Of course, I had to leave a message on his voice mail, but I let him know just how unhappy this supporter is. Wes Clark is not even going to be on the PA ballot, and we have the old lever machines in this precinct, so I won't be able to write him in. A lot of us have been cheated out of being able to vote for our candidate...but, hell, you already know that. Call. You'll feel better.

31. This poll was started by a Dean Blogger, but for all. NOT Fox.
Fox just happened to mention it. I am on the mailing list with him, and it is for real. There is more research being done apparently about comments, events, roles, etc. This is all I know for now. His name is Charlie Grapski.

He asked for it to be shared with supporters of other candidates who might feel their candidate might deserve more time in the race.

There is another thread on this. I think I said it was for those who wanted their candidate to go on.

There is no "go figure" about it. It is about all the candidates.

You do not have to sign it, or even read it. If you don't want to sign, just don't.

37. Petition on Line is a service unconnected with Fox
Several organizations I'm involved with have used them. The first time Dubya was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize I signed a petition to the Nobel Committee that was handled by Petition on Line. I forget who originated the petition; it was passed along by a friend. Anyhow, I suppress my e-mail and other address, and haven't had any repercussions.

I signed this one, for sure. There are some pithy comments from our people! Those bozos need to hear from us loud and clear. Howard Dean is still almost the only Democrat who gets just why so many of us are hopping mad at our own party. I'd quit if we had a viable third party; as it is I'm sticking around to try to get Bush out.

vote for a candidate based on your criteria, not whether you can stand their supporters on a forum.

48. Carl Levin of MI tried to get a change
in the scheduling of primaries and caucuses by getting MI, at least, into the early selection process. He was "shot down" over his stance.

"Sen. Carl Levin (D-MI) and DNC Member Debbie Dingell sent letters to eight Democrats who have declared as candidates urging them not to boycott states which challenge New Hampshire and Iowa's lead-off position in the delegate selection process".

Dean supporters can view his letter to HD here:
http://www.gwu.edu/~action/2004/states/mi022703ltr.html

U.S. Senator Carl Levin has been one of the most vocal critics of the special first status granted Iowa and New Hampshire, arguing that it "unfairly and disproportionately" advantages those states to the detriment of others. Under his leadership, Michigan Democrats made a push to hold their primary ahead of New Hampshire in the 2000 cycle but eventually backed off and held caucuses on March 11, 2000. In 2003 Michigan Democrats again considered holding their delegate selection process outside the DNC sanctioned window (Feb. 27, 2003 letter). Ultimately, under a compromise worked out with DNC chair Terry McAuliffe, Michigan Democrats agreed to the February 7 date; in exchange, the DNC will later form a commission that will examine the primary schedule and present a report by the end of 2005.
