Write to your reps--NOW! Re: Olbermann's speech
Edited on Tue Sep-04-07 10:31 PM by hyphenate
I just sent out emails to my Senators and Rep citing KOs speech from tonight. I think it's a good place to start--yet again--on getting impeachment put onto the table--immediately.

If anyone is interested in what I wrote, I'm pasting it into this thread--if anyone wants to copy it and use it, or gain inspiration from it, please do. It's far more important to get these letters and emails to our congress members ASAP.

As a constituent, I want to make it known that impeachment of George W. Bush is now the most important matter insofar as it relates to the current administration. In addition, an impeachment of George Bush cannot be made without an effort to impeach Richard Cheney at the same time.

It is imperative at this time to make sure that NO more money is given to the war in Iraq. It is on the basis of that war that many of us would prefer a temporary halt in all other proceedings be done in order to achieve the impeachment of both the president and the vice-president.

We have been in Iraq for 4+ years more than it has been necessary. During that time, over 3700 soldiers have died, untold numbers have been gravely injured, and hundreds of thousands of civilians have been tortured, wounded and killed. How can this go on a minute longer? American citizens are sick from all the posturing this administration has done and have consistently called for impeachment, all with the end result that both houses of Congress have ignored our cries. It is untenable that we are spending billions of dollars in an unpopular war (much of which is disappearing into the deep pockets of such war profiteers as Halliburton and Carlyle) and are still ignoring the horrendous problems here at home. It seems that a great pallor of grief, depression and despair has gripped our nation, not unlike that which followed the tragedies of 9-11-01.

Please--PLEASE!--do NOT put more money into any budget for Iraq, and insist that articles of impeachment are filed against Bush and Cheney--immediately.

Only a very few journalists are standing in the good fight against these warmongers and war perpetrators--Keith Olbermann is one of them. If you have not already been briefed, I suggest you see Keith's report from tonight--September 4, 2007 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GLO4AFQKvKo. Keith has won the hearts of many Americans for his constant intelligence and forthrightness--we can only hope that those in Congress, from all over the country, will hear and pay heed to the cry against the corruption that is currently trying to sink our nation into a continual and unjust war killing many Americans and civilians. Unlike Korea and Vietnam, however, the quagmire of Iraq MUST be stopped, and any kind of further war effort against foreign nations must come to an immediate halt. We, the people of the United States, MUST stop the aggression which is bringing the country to its knees, and making multi-millionaires of all who began the war with vicious lies and untruths.

Please--make it stop: NOW. Bring the troops and the war chests home to do some good here, not far away. It is the responsibility of our representatives to see that our wishes are taken into account--justice is best served before any additional funds are sent over there while they are desperately needed here.

Like I said, feel free. Spread it around if you want, too--emails, LTTEs, anything that can stir some reaction with those who are supposed to be our "representatives." I think too many of them think we're like little children, and that they're just so much "smarter" when it comes to "grown-up stuff." Ruck that shit--let's make it known we're not children and we're not stupid!

4. What you say certainly seems true...
They played us ~ and they're banking on us not having a choice and continuing to support them.

My feel-good fantasy: Gore runs as an indie, people jump ship and vote for him, somehow the votes are actually counted, and, just for good measure, we toss out as many incumbent congresscowards as possible. :)

5. Why not instead vote for
the only Democrat running who voted against the Iraq war in the first place and as of now is the only one continually voting to try to bring an end to it ?

6. I'm sick of Dems screwing over the base and taking our votes for granted...
I'd love to see a real revolution ~ an indie with a truly progressive platform on all issues. Gore is the only one popular enough to do it, if he'd be willing to leave the party and if he chose the right running mate.
