WelcomeBackTim.com, US Senator Tim Johnson

As you already know, this afternoon Tim and Barb Johnson are hosting an event to thank South Dakotans for their support during these past few difficult months. It's been a long journey home for Tim, after eight months of hospitalization and rehabilitation in Washington. We have launched a new web site to commemorate this occasion -- WelcomeBackTim.com -- where you can sign our online "Welcome Back" card for Senator Johnson.

Hundreds of South Dakotans from every corner of the state will be at today's celebration, and we hope you can join us as well! If you can't join us in person, check out our live streaming webcast of the celebration, starting at approximately 4:30 pm CT!

Also, be sure to tune in to tonight's Nightline on ABC. The entire episode will be devoted to Senator Johnson, showing the significant progress Tim has made in his recovery. Check your local listings for the station and airtime in your area.

As a reminder, here are the details for today's event in Sioux Falls:

4. Signed the e-card
Thanks for posting this! I signed the e-card.

I grew up in South Dakota and Tim Johnson is a good guy. My folks are good friends of Tom Daschle and have hosted both Tom and Tim at their farm.

6. I am glad that Johnson is okay

however, let's not celebrate too strongly because Tim Johnson is one of the most conservative DLC dems in the Senate. His presense will not increase odds of success for progressives in the Senate, as sad as that is. He is also not do much to slow down the Bush machine, either.

Clinton (New York) DLC 53.44827586
Menendez (New Jersey) DLC 50
Cantwell (Washington) DLC 48.27586207
Stabenow (Michigan) DLC 46.55172414
Kohl (Wisconsin) DLC 44.82758621
Feinstein (California) DLC 44.82758621
Leiberman (Connecticut) DLC 44.82758621
Rockefeller (West Virginia) 41.37931034
Conrad (North Dakota) DLC 41.37931034
Baucus (Montana) DLC 39.65517241
Carper (Deleware) DLC 34.48275862
Johnson (South Dakota) DLC 31.03448276
Lincoln (Arkansas) DLC 31.03448276
Salazar (Colorado) DLC 24.13793103
Pryor (Arkansas) DLC 22.4137931
Nelson (Florida) DLC 20.68965517
Landrieu (Louisianna) DLC 17.24137931
Nelson (Nebraska) DLC 3.448275862

On big bills and nomination, Johnson voted with the progressives 30% of the time. Hardly a shining example of a progressive.

But I am glad that he is okay.

9. I never knew Menendez - my Senator - was DLC
He was still head and shoulders better than teh Republican who ran against him.

10. I agree
But I would also contend that New Jersey could do much better than the DLC.

Comparing a DLCer to a puke is like comparing swine to a pile of shit. Yes, next to the pile of shit, the swine looks clean, but it is still swine. Better to go with clean in the first place.

7. There was a nice segment on his recovery on GMA this morning.
Bob Woodruff was reporting. It was interesting because there the Senator was with his family all around and this was after the lead in feature on Sen. Craig's "lewd" guilty plea. What a nice contrast of family values!
