Howard Dean’s candidacy is dead
Send a letter to the editor

By RUSS FAGALY

Howard Dean's political career died today during an uninspiring showing in the Wisconsin democratic primary. His political career was 13 years old.

Howard Dean's political career began in 1991 in Vermont. After serving as lieutenant governor, Dean was elevated to the governorship upon the death of then-Governor Richard Sneling. Dean remained governor for a decade, taking the state from the brink of fiscal insolvency to record surpluses....."

Man, I sure do hope those WI folks did not go out in the cold and waste their votes. Silly, foolish people.

22. Remember
we are all on the same side. I would have gladly supported Dean if he was the nominee.

4. I only know one person who's voted so far today...
...and they voted for Dean.

I'm not voting until after work (early this evening), as are most of the people I know.

isn't all we've lost. We've lost any control we might have had over the electoral process. We've lost any pretense of democracy.

Dear Editor:

I'm reading your story stating Dean's "uninspiring showing" Wisconsin primary at 1:24 pm est.

I am not a Dean supporter. But I must object to this kind of reporting. This kind of story about a candidate before the voting
has commenced or concluded is harmful to our democracy. This is demonstrative of a complete lack of journalistic integrity
to post a story that would influence voters on the day that they are to vote. The story is void of facts and presents no
opportunity for rebuttal. The harm done by stories like this are irreparable. They are done with such frequency these
days, they appear to be by design.

11. YW. This IS outrageous. CNN did the same thing to Clark...
I objected in writing then. If it's wrong for Clark, it's wrong for Dean too.

We write them once a week to remind them we are not watching them until they become honest. My husband and I just quit watching them.

16. Here's mine - copied to author of article
Quite frankly, I find it appalling and offensive of the media's continuous affront on the campaign of Howard Dean. Before the first primary vote was cast, we were reminded through media with a repetitive marketing strategy of the angry Dean and the Deaniac phenomena. Who could explain it? Certainly not the experts. They all claimed "surprise" at the results of the exit polls. They said it was shocking that people were getting out to vote in record numbers. These statements continue.

A declaration of Dean's death has been thrust upon the American voters since the first primary. Yet, Dean still is number 2 in delegates. We have been told it's now a two man race between Kerry and Edwards. And Dean still is number 2 in delegates. We have been told Dean's out of money, not paying his people, and his campaign supporters are leaving him in droves. Aside from these things being false, Dean is still number 2 in delegates.

But the most egregious act in all of this comes today. When before the voters of Wisconsin have cast all of their votes, before Wisconsin voters have left their homes and offices during the lunch hour, before precincts have begun to tally votes, before results have even begun to be reported...Headlines read: Dean is Dead.

17. My Letter to the editor -
Dear editor -

Perhaps your newspaper should stick to reporting the news, and give up the illusion of making the news. The election in Wisconsin has barely even begun. Californians, whom you pretend to represent, are weeks from voting.

Fagaly, forgetting his journalistic integrity and believing himself to be a celebrity, disenfranchises all those who have yet to vote. You, as the editor of the paper that prints such tripe, should be ashamed of yourself.

But - whatever sells, right? How pathetic. What a sad commentary on our country.

We used to have a press that prided itself on keeping our government honest. Now the press sees itself in the role of kingmaker. What a step down in the political foodchain.

Well, since dollars are what motivates you, I will look carefully through your paper, find every advertiser, write them and let them know that as long as they purchase advertising in a paper that disenfranchises voters, I will not support their products.

Howard Dean has said that he sees this primary as a long war of attrition. Perhaps that war starts here, in a long process of wearing down the egos of journalists that have no integrity.

23. My letter in response:
Pardon me, but I'm not sure I read that correctly.

Have the polls closed? What % of the Wisconsin vote are you basing this on? Has Dr. Dean dropped out, or made any kind of announcement about his candidacy? I am not a Dean supporter; another candidate has my vote. But I believe this article to be maliciously irresponsible. To call a race when a small percentage of votes have been counted, and to declare a candidate's campaign "dead" when that candidate has made no announcement, shows an astounding lack of journalistic integrity on the part of Russ Fagaly.

As a Californian and an educator, I am appalled.

Getting ready to go in a few minutes...

My first thought that this person from Calif. must've written this sometime very early this morning in order to get it into today's edition...

On second thought, I bet he wrote it yesterday...
