26. Yeah...in September
Leahy talking tough is not the balm it once was. It's become all too familiar. And his tough talk is somewhat mitigated by his professed desire to work things out with the administration. Every delay he has accepted from them makes it clearer that he is anxious to avoid a showdown. And Bushco plays on that constantly, stalling, dodging, and playing for time.

And it's not just Leahy. Almost everyone on our side of the aisle now thinks it's better to wait them out than to take them on. They're waiting for January, 2009. Imagine that - the majority party is going to play defense for the next 17 months.

So now Leahy's gonna take action...in September. And maybe something will happen then, who knows, but it's perhaps unrealistic to expect people to stand up and cheer the fifth act in a three-act play, which is much the same as the previous four: tough talk and writing stern letters to people who laugh at receiving them. They have his number, and that of all his brethren on The Hill. And they have a million little ways to delay this proceeding until electoral oblivion renders it all moot.

5. The Judiciary Committee is focusing on the LEGALITY of FISA
They subpeonaed the information by a vote of 13 to three. They spent YEARS seeking cooperation from the administration and they didn't comply.

Misters Bolton and Fielding asked for more time, they gave them until August first, and then gave them even more time until today.

Leahy looked forward to compliance, but didn't get it.

The amendment to FISA is TEMPORARY, six months life--so it's essential that we understand how BushCo interprets it.

Leahy is SMOKIN' here, folks--he's PISSED!!!!!

"Fictitious veil of secrecy"....Leahy has VERY LITTLE comfort...

18. Unfortunately, our preference has not counted since the 2000 election.
So cooperation is pretty much out of the question. Rove seemed very worried and lied through his teeth in his TV appearances yesterday.

We've got both houses, now. And that is certainly helpful.

11. He's kicking ass. Plain-speaking!!
Perhaps the President has NOT BEEN BRIEFED on this....he doesn't seem to know that the law has been upgraded more than thirty times at all...

Man, he's ACERBIC. It's GREAT.

Now he is talking about how he's asked the Inspector General to look into GONZO LYING in front of his committee!!!!

I was DISAPPOINTED in Gonzo's testimony...offered him the chance to MAKE CHANGES...he basically said that Alberto is a fucking liar, in very senatorial language...

17. No it doesn't. YOu can't forward contempt charges to the full Senate until they are in session.
But you can telegraph intent to so do, which he did.

And he's also asked the IG to go after Gonzo.

That's a bit more than 'nothing' being signified, there.

But whatever. Give up, abandon hope, and run around crying that the sky is falling. It's so much MORE fun to be negative to some, I suppose.

20. They've had plenty of time to do something about this.
And you damn well know its not going to come to anything because he'd rather COOPERATE with the administration. Like we didn't have that one figured out already.

He telegraphed his intent? Whoa. I'll be impressed when he really does something.

21. No, you'll NEVER be impressed. Of that, I'm fairly certain.
You're in the "Waaah, waaah" school of political observation. Your glass is always half empty, and your political servants are never good enough to suit you. You always "know" they won't do enough, and even when they exceed your standards, you'll "harrumph" about it. Some take joy in anticipating disappointment--even if it doesn't come to pass.

That's your problem. I have hope. You might actually want to watch the rerun of the presser next time it comes on, and you have a nice day.

22. You supporters of the do-nothings always accuse everybody else
of crying. Too bad you don't have the sense to realize that we want them to stand up and fight for our rights and our country. Something you enablers don't seem to care about.

Nobody's crying. Quite the contrary.

23. How fucking childish--"You supporters of the DEW-NUTHINGS"
Pretty generic, that. Give me a break. What are you, the supporters of the hectoring two percent of the Half Empty Glass Club?

If you observed and comprehended what the man said at the damned press conference, instead of "knowing" what Senator Leahy said, you'd have seen some fighting, some spirit and some determination.

But hey, whatever. If you're not crying, you're wallowing, and anticipating, in delighted fashion, failure--there are plenty of people who ENJOY that shit, why, I have no idea.

I don't have time for that kind of immature negativity; I support Senator Leahy's efforts, and I think he'll be successful.

Have a nice day.

24. Why is it that some people here, of which you a one of the worst, can
go around posting snotty little diatribes which basically mean nothing, and name-call and then when you get it back you have the audacity to be offended.

Don't tell me what I am and don't tell me how I feel. If you were that good at mind reading you wouldn't be posting on DU, you'd be running the country. Or maybe even the world.

People like you need to quit settling for lip service and actually demand that something get done.

25. Ooooh, "snotty little diatribes"--does that mean I hit a nerve?
"People like you" comments in response to my reasoned critique show me one thing--you can dish it out, but you sure as hell can't take it.

Keep whining, if it makes you feel important. Hold up that half empty glass and toast yourself proudly, now!

28. You have gone from being absolutely inane to mind numbingly boring.
And you do it better than anybody I've ever seen.

Go ahead, support the people who don't give a damn about your rights, the rights of your kids. Pretend that if you keep supporting people who are more interested in feathering their own nests and using public service as stepping stone to more money and corporate endorsements. I'm tired of you and your non-arguments.

It's much better to deal with people who want their reps to have some spirit. Who will fight for us. Enjoy yourself in Enabler-ville.

This argument is OVER.

29. The argument was over before you even started in, there.
Because you've contributed absolutely nothing but whining. No facts, no salient points. Just that things aren't to your liking. BFD. That and a buck fifty will buy you a small coffee.

Why do you even bother to post here, if you hate us all so much? This is a Democratic forum for people who support Democrats, not a free for all gripefest for people who like to tear down the party. Which you seem rather desperate to do, all the while, calling me and others who do support the party names.

Do you just like being contrary, or does it make you feel important when people quite naturally call you on your nonsensical ideations?

"Enabler-ville?" Surely you can do better than THAT "unkind cut!"
