Interesting numbers from the Mississippi Primary Elections Yesterday
With 92% of the votes counted, in the Governors race, total votes cast on the GOP side, 168K, total on dems side 379K. The winner of the dem primary got 267 thousand votes, more then 100 thousand more then the total number in the GOP primary. Which means absolutely nothing but maybe haley bar-bore will have a race on his hands this year.

1. I'm no MS guru
but isn't it more likely that there was little "realistic" competition in the Rep primary so nobody bothered to vote? Of course I much prefer your possible interpretation!

2. You're right
barbour had token opposition but it was exciting adding up the numbers on the dems side and there were a lot of interesting and close local races all over the state.

3. That's encouraging, Boss!
I don't know how you've stood having Barbour for a governor. When my family was traveling through Mississippi right before Katrina struck, we listened to Barbour on the local radio there. My husband & I were laughing at how he sucked up to Bush every chance he got. And if that's not enough to tell you he's an opportunist, it seems his nephew's wife owns a company that has a large contract with FEMA involving the storage of FEMA trailers, & the feds are looking into that.

My cousin lives in Vicksburg & works for the Corps of Engineers. I love her, but working for the government & having changed her religion from Methodist to Southern Baptist, she's now a first-class fundamentalist Bush nutjob, & she can't see through Haley Barbour.

at the numbers and am somewhat motivated to jump right into the general election. We have some great local races coming up so it should be a great year. Bar-bore is a dickhead, and Katrina might come back to bite him in the ass. One story in the news today is the threat of suicides rising in FEMA trailor parks in Mississippi. Even NPR is doing a story on it this afternoon. My head (and real estate) are in Mississippi but my Heart is in Louisiana (just 10 miles away.)

6. Barbour v. Eaves for Gov.
John Arthur Eaves. Did you see his "I Believe" ads? Absolutely pandering to the religious right. It's sad, really. I think Barbour is going to decimate Eaves in the general. I can't believe there was no better Dem available for this race.

Looks like the party just conceded the governor's mansion to Barbour without so much as a contest.
