Obama book "reveals" that politician had early political ambition
Shocking! Stop the presses! A future politician had political ambitions while young! Oh the humanity! :sarcasm:

Obama's Hidden Ambition

On the stump, Sen. Barack Obama "suggests his political career was an afterthought. He tells of returning to Chicago from Harvard Law School to be part of a civil rights practice and teach law," the Chicago Sun Times reports.

However, a new book by Chicago Tribune reporter David Mandel, Obama: From Promise to Power, "reveals a reason Obama joined a politically connected law firm: to give him entree to the powerbrokers in Chicago's elite liberal political community who helped elect Mayor Harold Washington -- a job the new lawyer had his eye on."

"Obama actually pondered a political career early on, even telling Craig Robinson, his future brother-in-law, he might get into politics after Harvard and 'maybe I can be president of the United States.'"

3. This is a point I want to see us start to fight against.
The MSM is trying to portray our candidates as overly ambitious, seeking power for powers sake while the GOP is responding to some higher calling.

Its classic GOP projection.

Fuck that nonsense.

5. I read this earlier. Very interesting point about opposing the war.

Obama decided to oppose the impending war "in part as a political calculation that he hoped would benefit him among Democrats," Mendell wrote.

Obama had just come off being crushed in a House race. He had no money. He had no base. Yet, he was planning to run statewide for senator. By opposing the war he in one stroke got an issue to run on and an instant statewide base. Is it just a coincidence that Obama's "courage" on Iraq vanished after his political interests changed in 2005?
