Has Obama Landed Hypocrisy Strong Blow To Hillary Clinton?
http://www.bayoubuzz.com/News/US/Politics/President_Race_2008/Has_Obama_Landed_Hypocrisy_Strong_Blow_To_Hillary_Clinton___4335.asp

Bush-Lite” versus “Experience Lite”?

That has been the plot this past week as Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have engaged in a heavy-weight match between the two top contenders for the Democratic Party presidential nomination.

Once again the topic of discussion was the same ongoing duel between Clinton and Obama.

However, now there are new revelations that might have an impact. An Obama spokesperson is suggesting that Hillary Clinton has waffled on the same issue that she and Vilsack have accused Obama. The Obama camp has presented a January 27 MSNBC interview where Clinton said (referring to talking to heads of some of these rogue nations) "I don't see it as a sign of weakness, I see it as a sign of strength. You know our president will not talk to people he considers bad. Well there are a lot of bad actors in the world and you don't make peace with your friends. You've got to deal with your enemies, your opponents, people whose interests diverge from yours."

Time will tell if the latest revelation will be an interesting tap on Clinton’s chin in this latest flurry of presidential tag-team jabs or if he has landed a power blow with hypocrisy written all over the glove. While the Clinton comment is not directly in conflict to Obama’s debate comment and her campaign's later comments, it certainly could end up in a commercial painting Clinton
as “inconsistent-strong”.

1. I look at Senators Clinton and Obama and see two very strong
Democrats. They are two of probably 7 or 8 people who will be the next President of the United States.

Most of those 7 or 8 people are Democrats.

You can draw up your own probabilities list and I believe a case could be made for maybe half a dozen at the least and a dozen at the far outside.

There are also 3 or 4 Democrats who might enter the race, with an outside chance of 2 or 3 who might re-enter having withdrawn from consideration, an unlikely but still possible brokered convention in which a census candidate will have to be selected / or who would emerge from unforeseen arrangements on the floor in Denver.

And it's not even Labor Day, to boot.

2. WTF? How are those comments contradictory to her debate answer? I don't want Obama -

not if he's going to engage in lies and insinuation and half-truths to win.

Hillary did not say she wouldn't meet with those leaders, she just laid out a cautious, and smart, path. That does not in any way conflict with this reported clip the Obama camp is trying to use against her. Obama's camp is trying to pile on when it it obvious that what Hillary answered at the debate and what she had said to msnbc, do not conflict, and that is Obama's core charge here. Obama's camp has built a quick strategy of response by being misleading and then responding as if their deceptions are actually real.

I don't want another person who deals in deception in the WH. Obama is quickly driving me away from him.

8. Obama is not engaging in Lies. He did not put words in her mouth. Hell he was not running for
election back then. She has to deal with what she said. MTP press said the same thing today. She just got caught up in this when she should not have said anything after the debate.

17. That's ridiculous. Here - statements side by side. Where is the contradiction?
Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 08:37 PM by Skip Intro
From OP:

Clinton said (referring to talking to heads of some of these rogue nations) "I don't see it as a sign of weakness, I see it as a sign of strength. You know our president will not talk to people he considers bad. Well there are a lot of bad actors in the world and you don't make peace with your friends. You've got to deal with your enemies, your opponents, people whose interests diverge from yours."

-------------

From debate:

Well, I will not promise to meet with the leaders of these countries during my first year. I will promise a very vigorous diplomatic effort because I think it is not that you promise a meeting at that high a level before you know what the intentions are.

I don't want to be used for propaganda purposes. I don't want to make a situation even worse. But I certainly agree that we need to get back to diplomacy, which has been turned into a bad word by this administration.

And I will purse very vigorous diplomacy.

And I will use a lot of high-level presidential envoys to test the waters, to feel the way. But certainly, we're not going to just have our president meet with Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez and, you know, the president of North Korea, Iran and Syria until we know better what the way forward would be.
---------------------------------------------------------------------

please highlight the contradiction(s).

4. I have a bone to pick with this experience thing
why is clinton allowed to borrow Bill's resume and call it her experience yet, Obama's 10 years in the state is totally dismissed.
Actually Obama has more experience in that he produced some major legislation during his 10 years here.
Hillary was first lady. That is not experience.

6. also why do they never mention this issue about Rudy
they blathered on MTP with Timmie for 10 minutes about Rudy, not once did they mention his lack of experience, he has no experience
in foreign relations at all with a background as mayor.

9. Obama has 10 years of elective experience. He is not trying to piggy
back off his wife. Hell with the logic the media is using Barabara Bush can run for President.

18. I understrand, but I listened to 10 minutes talk on Obama
and his lack of experience on Meet the Press, and 10 minutes of treating Rudy like he was not only the leading contender but
in the White House. Obama has more experience than Rudy.

Hillary's no stranger to the "political arena".

16. Is Laura Bush ready to be President?
Hillary implemented an education program for children and served on a couple of health boards while she was first lady of Arkansas. She mostly worked at the Rose Law Firm. She has no more experience than Barack Obama. Worse than that, if being a pillow away from all that power makes a difference, you'd think that she of all people would have known that the WMD intelligence was being distorted.

12. What is the problem? Obama once again has changed his position to the HRC position on this
Edited on Sun Jul-29-07 08:00 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
For those of you keeping track, this is the Obama position from last Sunday (before the debate) and then was revived briefly on Tuesday.

There is nothing contradictory between HRC's position in January, April, or July on this. She has been consistent.

13. Obama has said the same thing. However, Why did Edwards do a Flip Flop on the WAr
Why didn't he admit like others on the committee that the public was being told lies. The others on the committee said they did not vote for it because they knew Bush was marketing lies.
