Though I often do not feel like I need to, due to the excellent 4 paragraph summaries posted on DU, the online news articles and editorials featured on DU result in traffic reports that are being scrutinized daily by news rooms everywhere. And yes, all online news originates in a news room somewhere. Not only are unique visitors and page views analyzed, but time spent, clicks away, clicks back, referring IPs etc.

Now DUers go forth, you roving bands of Nielsen families and show the web 2.0 newsrooms that the curmudgeonly old white men who subscribe to their dead tree product are no longer a viable demographic as their future depends on the digital natives who by and large do not hold the same values as Rupert Murdoch & Roger Ailes.

Take the pledge!

I, a proud member of what we affectionately call the DUers, pledge to click through to at least __ articles per day, that reflect what is important to me to let the press know what this huge netroots community cares about. (A collateral effect of which would be, that the media we choose to support with our clicks, can sell more online advertising for more money so they won't have to cut more newsroom positions or close more bureaus than they already have. Because an informed public is necessary for democracy.)
