Poll question: Is what a Presidential candidate says the most important factor that influences your vote?
When selecting a candidate to support, is what the Presidential candidate says most important, or are other factors more important? I am leaving "other factors" deliberately open-ended...they could be anything postitive or negative about the candidate.

2. Record, Consistency, Honesty
That's what I base my vote on. Nobody will ever surpass John Kerry on that count, not in my lifetime. But he can't run cuz he told a bad joke. :eyes:

3. What they say
and what they have done in the past. What they do and say while campaigning is more or less 'fluff' and not as telling as to how they have spent their political lives to date prior to running.

That's right, one look at DK and my mind was made up before he even opened his cute little mouth.

5. they should be honest and consistent but, I also know
a candidate sometimes needs to tailor a message to certain interest groups and so some things are forgotten or toned down.

7. Ah c'mon Cal..

I can't imagine anyone selecting any candidate based on their blabber alone ---->

If you reel in someone who picks that first response, I sure hope they explain why they picked it!

11. Policy is secondary.
The most important factor is whether I can trust the candidate to do what is right in unforeseen circumstances.

All presidents are beset by unexpected events, domestic or international, that are not covered by their policy statements. Experience, smarts, good advisers, etc. are far more important than policy positions to me.

12. What a person does......
A person's track record, the organizations that they belong to, where they get most of their money, and a bit of what they say are what I base my vote on. I don't vote for people who vote for war and then say they are against that war. I don't vote for people who say what each individual group wants to hear. I look at whether they put their money where their mouth is so the speak. I don't vote for DLC. Things like that influence my vote. I want someone to represent me and not the corporations that they get money from. As you can see, I have trouble voting...Ha Ha...
