GOP lawyer sold on Dems
5 top candidates impress trial attorneys: 'I couldn't eliminate one of them'

July 16, 2007
JENNIFER HUNTER

After watching the top five Democratic candidates for president speak before a trial lawyers' group Sunday, attorney Jim Ronca of Philadelphia, a staunch Republican, became certain of one thing: He is not going to vote Republican in the 2008 presidential election.

He will support the Democrats.

"I'm not only going to vote Democratic, I'm going to financially support the Democrats," Ronca said after a luncheon forum of the American Association for Justice, featuring Gov. Bill Richardson, Sen. Barack Obama, former Sen. John Edwards, Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Joe Biden. "The Republicans in Washington are an embarrassment."

Ronca said he was impressed with the Democrats' opposition to recent decisions of the U.S. Supreme
Court, the refusal of the White House to hand over documents related to the firing of federal prosecutors, and the war in Iraq.

Clinton said her first priority, after ending the war, would be to balance the budget, noting the weakness of America's finances has undermined its global influence.
Ronca said he was impressed by Obama's "presence" but not certain "about the substance underneath,"
but his friend, Ted Oshman of New York, said he "was surprised all the candidates "were so strong.

"I couldn't eliminate one of them."

2. When stuff like this starts happening...
When potential big donors start defecting, then you know that things are very, very bad for the repukes. Perhaps worse then we allow ourselves to believe.

3. Could the days of the GOP be soon past?
Parties have come and parties have gone.
The Wigs came and went
The Federalist came and went
And we have the Libertarians who are trying to establish themselves for the last 30 years.

Maybe another party can be added to the came and went list? Will not break my heart if it happens. Another will rise and maybe it will be less demonic.

4. We need competition but not the likes of Republicans
Any opposition party needs to have ethics, honesty and work for the American people
