To those that have chosen or will choose a candidate
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 04:10 PM by politicasista
Good luck to you. No, I am not being sarcastic. I am serious.

Hope you have found, or will find what you are looking for, and that he/she will be everything that you say and want in a candidate. And if not, just be careful not to be disappointed if he/she doesn't say or do things the way you want them to. Mistakes will be made ya know.

If you are wondering, no, I don't have a candidate (yet). There is one that isn't running and another that I am considering. But in the end, I will vote for the nominee and leave it at that.

Not a flamewar, just an honest thought. :hi:

edit for spelling.

1. of course
I never believed any candidate was perfect. People who DO think that scare me.

I haven't chosen a candidate yet either, but I'm sure some things he/she does will disappoint me. That's politics.

2. That's what I am saying
But to people who complain about wanting a "fighter" or "charisma" should think about what those terms mean, otherwise you will set yourself up for disappointment. It's going to take more than just those terms and other skills to win an election.

It's all about party unity and message period.

7. "Party unity and message"
That's it. It took me years to arrive at this realization---my maturing as a voter is how I see it.

3. I hear 'ya
It seems like we live in a day and age where people expect OTHER people (not themselves of course) to be damn near perfect. I read so many posts where DUers hear something about someone and they can just NEVER support this or that person EVER again (outrage, shock, ad nauseum...) The fact is, we're all people in this weird thing called 'life' and, like it or not, there are a lot of grey areas in this bizarre world where more and more people try to make things so damned black & white. What ends up happening is that we set ourselves up for constant and neverending disappointment - with nobody ever living up to our extremely unrealistic expectations.

4. My friends were so convinced Kerry would have it.
He was so perfect--war hero, etc. etc. But look what happened.

There's no real science to predicting the outcome of these things. At this point the Democratic candidate is my candidate, until someone convinces me he/she is better. I do retain my autonomy and won't make the lifelong promise of my vote that you sometimes see here. Extreme loyalists frighten me on either side.

5. I'd like to merge them into a single candidate.
Edited on Fri Jul-13-07 04:56 PM by seasat
I'm playing with my chemistry set right now and just have to figure out the right combination of stuff.

I'd take Hillary's campaign skills and gender.

I'd take 1/2 Obama's race and all his oratory skills.

I'd take 1/2 of Richardson's ethnicity and all of his experience, negotiating, and legislative skills.

I'd take Kucinich's passion, Edwards' compassion, and Biden's Debating skills.

I'd throw in a little of Gravel's rebellion and Dodd's pragmatism.

I'd take some of Edwards, Kucinich, Dodd, and Richardson's policies.

I'd end up with a progressive, experienced part African American, part Hispanic candidate that could stomp any troglodyte Repug that got in their way and easily get our platform passed as law.

Until I figure out how to do that, I'm leaning just slightly towards Obama.

6. I have not yet picked my candidate...
But what you say is a good reminder to everyone, because no one person will have all the attributes some may be looking for in a candidate. I will pick someone before my primary, but I too will absolutely vote for the Dem candidate mo matter who that is.
