McCain is left stranded
By Sam Youngman and Manu Raju
July 11, 2007

The wheels came off Sen. John McCain’s (R-Ariz.) presidential campaign yesterday as high-level staffers resigned amid infighting and acrimony.

Longtime McCain adviser and friend John Weaver, campaign manager Terry Nelson, political director Rob Jesmer and deputy campaign manager Reed Galen all resigned from the campaign yesterday.

Nelson and Weaver bowed out after becoming frustrated by incoming campaign manager Rick Davis’s constant end-runs around them to McCain, according to a campaign aide familiar with the campaign’s inner workings.

McCain, well-known for his military service, appears to have lost his top staffers and closest confidant by failing either to institute or adhere to a chain of command within his own organization.

Davis, who has a longstanding relationship with McCain, would go to the senator directly by cell phone with his own ideas and advice, sidestepping the direction of Nelson and Weaver, the aide said.

Nelson and Weaver each “said, ‘I got better things to do. I quit,’” the aide said.

2. I said this on another thread, but Weaver is like McCain's Rove--
another poster pointed that out, and it's true--he was the architect of McCain's almost-win in 2000. The wheels have REALLY come off the bus now, when even his most faithful staff have had it with him.

6. I think McCain should leave for his own good
and the good of his party.

(Ok - I just had to say that... lol)

But seriously, it's obvious he's an abysmal failure. He lost his chance long ago. He thought he was going to waltz into the position, but he hadn't counted on the fact that he just seems like a smarmy toad.

7. I don't think this is the end of John McCain....yet...
The primary season is still six months away.

His candidacy will not amount to much, but he may limp into Iowa enough to get sucker-punched for the final blow.
