1. I'm a bit surprised to hear him claim he voted for GWB...
but any voice against the war is a welcome addition.

6. Uh- not only does he say he voted for him, he says he doesn't regret it.
What a load of crap. He needs to go back into retirement.

8. At this point, you really have to twist your mind around...
... to feel good about Bush's Middle East policy.

The half-full side of me says, great, people like Hammer are doing that twist to work their way toward the light. The half-empty side says WTF and worries that if we're not getting the story straight now, we won't get the next one straight either.

12. Get Real!
Edited on Wed Jun-13-07 08:22 PM by Kingstree
So what? MC Hammer voted for GWB. If you listened to the video, he is asking for the troops to come home. He, along with millions of americans (does that include you) wanted payback for 9-11. We did not ask questions then, so why criticize now. When GWB said we are going to IRAQ, I did not see any nationwide protests rallies against it or any support to go to Afghanistan only. He is asking the same thing that you and millions of Americans (Democrats or Republicans) want. Insurgents, IED's and bullets don't discriminate against any soldiers or civilians and at this point it does not matter who is asking to bring this to an end, whether it's a Bush supporter or not. Until this point, the majority wanted payback. You, me and others are on DU asking everyday to end this war and MC Hammer made a video asking for the same thing. What's the difference?

13. Get real, indeed
What's real is that Bush neglected the fight against Bin-Laden and started an ill-conceived war of whim in Iraq, and he and his enablers like Lieberman are now banging the drums for a war in Iran.

As Al Gore has eloquently argued, it's time to stop the "Assault on Reason."

Speak for yourself about not asking questions then. The case for the Iraq War was B.S., and it smelled like it at the time. If the press had done its job, it never could have been sold to any but the most lizard-brained of Americans. Among other things, the press avoided covering some of the massive protests that were held.

18. (does that include you) - well, in a word, "No"
I did not want to see "payback" at that time, especially when it was clear Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. So, no, "Making someone pay" which basically meant "making anyone pay" was not something I EVER was on board with. I asked A LOT of questions then, but no one answered them. I challenged every person who talked about the war in front of me, including my boss. And if you didn't see protests, you are blind. There's a group in my city who has been protesting EVERY week since Afghanistan.

3. Impressive
Nice artistic interpretation of his views. Obviously, I disagree with his praise of Bush and his interpretation of the "war on terror," and his apparent conflation of September 11 and Iraq demonstrates gross ignorance of facts and truth. But the song and video are touching.

And it's an interesting perpective, from someone tricked into believing Bush's lies and still unable to let them go, who nonetheless sees the futility of what we are doing.

However, the obsession with some people of "bringing the troops home" because of our own casualties bothers me. I'm, quite honestly, more concerned about the hundreds of thousands of innocent people being slaughtered in Iraq, just because of the sheer numbers, and the complete injustice of killing people who did nothing wrong. Ending the occupation should be seen not just in terms of our troops, but in terms of the millions of casualties in Iraq, and in terms of the complete violation of all human rights under our rule. My problem with saying "Good job, Bush, mission over, let's bring 'em home," is that it lets Bush off the hook, but worse, it furthers the lie that we invaded and slaughtered for good, heroic reasons, and that, like the lies we tell about most wars in our history classes, creates a romance around violence and death that we should be trying to end.

The ultimate irony to Hammer's song and to the whole "war on terror" is that our very actions of using big explosions and mass death to eliminate what we see as threats to our way of life inspire terrorists the world over to do the same thing, while creating more terrorists who feel wronged by us. We can't fight terror with terror, it will only lead to more terror.

14. WTF?
Edited on Wed Jun-13-07 09:33 PM by AZBlue
"You did what we needed
In our darkest hour
While our peoples was dyin'
In them burning twin towers
Never before have we seen it like this
The enemies we looking for
Was living in our midst
So we brought it to 'em
And we hit 'em where it hurts
Stuck they heads in the sand and knocked they dicks in the dirt
They know what it is, sir,
Job well done
Now pick up the phone and tell our boys
Come on home."

Aside from the last two lines, WTF is he talking about???!?! Has he LOST it?

And, I'm not too pleased with the burning and crumbling World Trade Center being used in a music video. Perhaps I'd feel differently if I agreed more with the lyrics, but I think I'd still feel it's a bit, um, odd.

15. Also uncomfortable is...
... the use of coffins as a prop. At one level it's affecting (in a call to bring back the troops), but especially in the service of a lie (that the Iraq war was a sensible response to 9/11), it's quite disgusting.

Again, I'm torn about the whole thing, because if this will help the lizard brains support a troop withdrawal, that's a good thing -- but no lessons will be learned with the B.S. Hammer is spouting, and we're inching very close to doing it again in Iran.

20. Yeah, if it increases support for an end to this occupation, then I'm for that -
but the rest of it is just so odd. I don't know - then again, politics makes strange bedfellows.

17. Gee, I guess he isn't making enough money from the Jesus business
I still remember flipping the channels on the cable and TBN pops up with the MC Hammer ministries., then Kirk Cameron came on. I never laughed so much or so hard at two has beens since. Amazing seeing both of these fools whoring for Republicans in the name of Jesus. Only increased my hatred of ignorant biblebeaters!

I just was laughing myself sick seeing that old fart uttering Christian rap lyrics that would have fit right in at Je$u$ ¢amp!
