Craig Crawford; Obama on a Roll
Craig Crawford’s Trail Mix: Obama On A Roll
By Craig Crawford | 11:15 AM; May. 31, 2007

It’s not just that film stars George Clooney and Matt Damon are touting him, but things are looking up for Barack Obama.

The Illinois senator’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination floundered a bit after a less than impressive performance in last month’s first debate of the campaign. A recent poll showed him to be the only one in his party who tops each of the Republican frontrunners in head-to-head matchups. And Obama is finally starting to put some substance on the table, unveiling a health care plan this week.

Still it’s tough to top endorsements like Damon’s — the actor summed up Obama’s appeal for many Democrats in a Time magazine interview: “I think a lot of the problems in the world would be mitigated if he were the face of our country. I haven't ever met him or talked to him, but he's the first person in a long time who I've been inspired by.”

It's a long, long way to go yet. You would think the whole race hinged on this poll or that, last week or next!

14. "If he were the face of our country."
Yes, having the first black man as President would change the way America is perceived in the world for the better, no doubt about it. It would send a powerful message...even more so than if we elected a woman, given past history and the state of the world today.
