Wolfowitz and World Bank look to avoid confrontation (IHT)
By Steven R. Weisman
Published: April 29, 2007

~snip~ "I think the board has been looking for a way out of this," said a bank official who had been briefed on the board's thinking. "The directors do not want to set a precedent by ousting Wolfowitz. I'm convinced that they are hopeful that he will see the light and give a way out by resigning or proposing something palatable from a political perspective." ~snip~

European officials said that Merkel had come prepared to tell Bush that Europe favored a resignation by Wolfowitz, in part because of his past actions but also because his divisive leadership has become an obstacle to rich countries in meeting their commitment to raise $30 billion over the next three years for poor countries.

But German officials said Merkel might not raise the matter on her own because the Germans had been told that Bush would reply forcefully that the United States still stood behind Wolfowitz. ~snip~

But in the Bush administration, where Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney were leading the charge to defend Wolfowitz and preparing to confront Merkel and other Europeans if necessary, there also appeared to be a recognition that the bank was ailing and likely to become close to dysfunctional if Wolfowitz stayed. ~snip~

3. You have to wonder with these neocons if the crisis environment..with
experienced staff resigning right and left... if it is intentional. Same thing happened with FEMA. I'm just saying...they do it again and again.

4. It's hard to get rid of these dirty old Republican men who have girlfriends on the payroll.
In Colorado, we had a county official who was sending e-mails to his secretary/girlfriend. He gave her a lot of overtime pay and a pay increase.

They finally had a recall to get rid of him. I guess these dirty old Republicans figure that this is part of their grand strategy for destroying government. This cost the people of that Arapahoe county a lot of money.

8. Wolfy wants a big payday to resign, according to blog.
Rawstory is reporting that according to the blog "The Washington Note" that the Wolf wants his $400k bonus before he will resign. I assume the bonus is for screwing the poor countries of the World. It would be cost effective for the poor countries of the World to take up a collection and buy him off.

I hope I am not breaking a rule posting a second hand blog story.

9. as usual, an incompetent neoCON takes the helm & runs the ship aground
Merkel should not give in. Get a clue from the Dems who are growing spines and demand he be removed or take Wolfoshits away in handcuffs.
