Another SC Poll: Clinton leads Obama ...31-27
With Edwards at 16...

I am actually most baffled by Edwards' poor performance in the state of his birth..

On the Republican side...McCain with a fairly hefty lead over Guiliani...

1. I'm surprised by Edwards' showing as well.
Didn't he win the SC primary in 2004? And now he's in third place? Weird...

2. Good for Obama.
That's a good place to be at this point in the race. Hillary seems to be one or two bad mistakes away from losing a lot of her support.

Obama seems to be one or two bad mistakes away from falling even further behind.

7. I agree, you are right, but...
I think Hillary is the one on thinner ice. Obama's disapprovals are very low compared to other candidates. Hillary's are already in the 45%-50% range.

9. at the same time...
... Hillary's negatives are about as high as they'll go. Obama's will move up the more known he becomes.

3. Black votes are very hard to come by for Edwards in SC
or anywhere else for that matter, between a black candidate and Big Dog's wife running (and don't take this the wrong way; her strength with black voters is real, but it depends very heavily on Bill).

5. Don't African Americans comprise a huge chunk of the SC primary voters? Like 40% or something?

6. It was half the vote in 2004
<Black voters accounted for 49 percent of the vote in the 2004 Democratic primaries in South Carolina. By contrast, exit polls showed 1 percent of New Hampshire’s 2004 Democratic primary voters were black.>
