1. This is too sad....
In a time where we are poised to take it all back and for the first time in decades have a list of presidential candidates that would make any dem strategist orgasm, we are to suffer another year and a half of "I know I am, but what are you" ..... He should have said it was the McCain Rudy, or the Romney camp calling.

4. I realize he was joking....
I just am seeing too much of sibling rivalry and infighting - we should be going after the GOP. Long day, etc.....

16. I understand what you're saying, but this is the Democratic
primary season, so the "opponents" are other Dems. I guess that was the thinking.

11. Just the kind of cavalier attitude I'd expect from a candidate
who goes on wild sprees and ends up with TWO or more parking tickets from one single day of nihilistic motoring! Plus, I hear he smokes!

13. What's sad about it. Sharpton's phone rang. Obama said "Is that Hilary calling."
I thought it was pretty funny since it's well known that Clinton and Obama are both courting Sharpton.

It's also pretty much assumed by people who've watched Sharpton over the years that he will go with whoever makes him the best offer.

I thought it was a pretty funny remark and one that shows that Obama knows what's going on perfectly well.

5. LOL
The day we become so incredibly thin skinned that a little good-natured ribbing among competitors is taboo (and these candidates ARE competing), is the day we need to just roll over and die.

How anyone could consider this a slight or insult or any such nonsense is beyond me.

6. How do you know what the Clinton camp thinks.
No where in the article does it say the Clinton camp said anything. It was just a silly, little joke. Why bring in what the Clinton's might think, in your opinion.

9. Nah...Hillary would laugh and think it was a whimsical touch.
But on a more serious note:

Obama's statement right here could be problematic:

"I've said to Rev. Sharpton and I'll say it today, if there is somebody - I don't care whether they are white or black or they are male or female - if there is somebody who has been more on the forefront on behalf of the issues you care about and has more concrete accomplishments on behalf of the things you're concerned about, I'm happy to see you endorse them. But I am absolutely confident you will not find that," he said.

It's a pretty BIG statement that other declared candidates, and thats besides Hillary, make take offense to.

Hillary has done much in the 6 years she's been a Senator. Biden may come after Obama for that crack...just sayin!

10. I would ask that all
think for a moment concerning Obama. Okay! From the start let me say if Obama wins the nomination I will cast a vote for him, but this is not what I would like to put out there for you all to consider.

What makes you believe the right wing is going to play nice if Obama wins or for that matter if HRC wins the nominee? They will not. I have written time and time again the RACIST republicans would like nothing more then Obama to be the democratic nominee.....Reason being, they believe they, the GOP would have an easier time convincing people the U.S. is not ready for a Black President, let along a woman president...

How can I say this? Because I have lived in the state of Mississippi for too many years to know what racist and bigots will do to win an election. I lived through all the bad times in the 60's and 70's when being Jewish was as bad according to the bigots as being black. I did see minor progress in the 80's and more so in the 90's when WJC was president. But, when the GOP sends their nominee down to Neshoba County as they did Reagan and he talks about states rights then you know this is code. Too much of this is still happening in the south. We just saw it in the Tenn. Senate race when race entered the contest the last 2 weeks by the GOP showing a white woman asking Ford to call in a spot that aired many, many times.

Even with the Imus outrage and folks all saying we should all watch what one says to one another. This is something that should already have been taught that no one should ever demean or belittle another person of another race.....but do you think the GOP will abide by that come 2008 campaign season? NO! They will do all they can to play the race card against Obama and use HRC's pro women's stance against her as well....

So, all I ask is this. If you support Obama then support him and be not critical and demean HRC and the same goes to us that support HRC. Do not be so hateful and mean spirited towards Obama. We Democrats have a field of candidates that we all can feel proud of and support any one of them if they are the nominee.....

I do thank you....
Ben David

ought to be beating a path to your door to sign you on as a campaign staffer.

Great post.

14. Did they play nice when we nominated a white guy from Massachusetts?
Edited on Sun Apr-22-07 07:35 AM by BeyondGeography
Were they nice to Clinton?

Sorry, but the fear of nominating a black man (or a woman) is the weakest of all arguments for me, especially if the argument is tied to a perceived backlash from the Republican machine, which is vile even to card-carrying members of its own party (nothing they do to Obama will be worse than what BushCo did to McCain in the 2000 SC primary, e.g.) I'm under no illusion that some racists won't vote for Obama because he's black and some women haters will penalize their own interests and oppose Hillary. But both candidates would also benefit from who they are and get new voters to the polls, Obama (who would get huge support from younger voters) perhaps moreso than Hillary, but that's only my partisan opinion.

We know the Republicans can be big, bad people, and we know there are racists in the South. So what? We could choose to be paralyzed by this or not. I vote for the latter.

15. People don't realize the inpact of their words.
Bobby's idea works in a negative way too.

You might call it Ripple of Hate.

"Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance." 20. Says someone who smears Obama repeatedly
with the same debunked bullshit. Sorry, BenDavid, but as nice as your intentions sound, your actions just don't back it up.

I'm sure there are plenty more if I cared to find them, but below are just a few threads in which you launched into the same regurgitated tirade against Obama and his support for Lieberman in the democratic primary- of course, you neglect to mention that Hillary and pretty much every other Senate dem supported Lieberman in the same primary. It's considered customary for Senate Democrats to support other incumbent Democrats when they are up for reelection.

Once Lamont won the primary, Obama threw his support behind him- just like the other Senate dems. But considering you have repeatedly posted such nonsense even after being corrected, it at appears that you knowingly posted half-truths with the sole intention of smearing Obama.

This one, where you actually compared Obama to Bush, was especially rich:

SUCH COCKINESS! but soon that will end when one of the other candidates will confront Obama on why he decided to support Joe Lieberman in the General election in the u s senate race in 2006 and not the democratic nominee and the anti war candidate Ned Lamont..(YES! HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON SUPPORTED NED LAMONT IN THE GENERAL)....Obama is getting to look a look like george bush with that swagger and self importance....my my.....Obama speaks and says...NOTHING!!
Oh maybe you Obama supporters are trying to hide that little tidbit, but it is there right under the surface and will when the time is right, be brought to the fore....

So what was that you were saying again about being so hateful and mean-spirited towards Obama? All while calling him unelectable, due to his race in the very same post?

And in case you are wondering, while she is certainly not among my top choices of candidates, I don't post hateful smears about Hillary here. Feel free to conduct your own search for verification.

Perhaps you should follow your own advice, BenDavid.

18. No, but here's a photo of Obama and Sharpton with Blackberry in hand, both laughing

The Sharpton-Obama-Clinton dynamic was made unusually plain at one point yesterday when Mr. Obama, pausing in his remarks, looked at the podium and said, “There’s something humming down here.”

“That’s Sharpton’s BlackBerry,” Mr. Obama added, and then quickly quipped, “Is that Hillary calling?”

As the audience laughed, he said: “I was just checking. I wasn’t sure.”
